Merlee's fortune telling services can randomly give Mario special bonuses whenever he fights, at the cost of some coins.
The more expensive you pay Merlee, the longer the chances of an effect triggering randomly. The cost of the path does not affect the chance of an effect triggering.
The most expensive option, which is the special path, is considerably cheap and its effects can last a whole chapter. If you want to get the most out of Merlee's services, you can opt to get this path.
One of the random effects Merlee's Fortune Telling can give Mario is increased Attack or Defense during battles.
Another random effect would be getting more coins as reward after winning a battle, which can be useful if you want to farm coins.
A random effect of Merlee's fortune telling can give more star points after winning a battle, which can help Mario quickly level up.
How to Level Up Fast and Level Cap
Merlee's house can be found at Rogueport Sewers, located in the background of the area.
To get there, you need to head down the warp pipe in front of Professor Frankly's house. Once down, you need to go to your right until you see a warp pipe that is behind a fence.
Then, you can use Paper Mode to slide through the fence, then go down the warp pipe that will lead you to the background. Finally, you just need to go over to Merlee's house on the left.
You will be able to go to Merlee as early as Chapter 1 and after you obtain the Paper Mode ability.
