Spike Room Walkthrough Guide

Inside the Palace of Shadow is a room full of hidden spikes. The technique to get through this room is to use the wall as your guide.

Every section aligned with the rose stained glass contains a spike trap panel, while the red wall panels are clear and indicate that it's probably a good idea to change your current lane. However, the one red wall panel beside the ? Block actually contains a spike trap right next to the block.

Jump Over the Rotating Fire Bars for Coins

As you go through the Palace of Shadow, you'll end up in a room with multiple rotating fire bars that are blocking a bridge. If you jump over a rotating fire bar ten consecutive times, it will disappear and reward you with some coins.

How to Get Coins Fast

The Room Full of Dry Bones

Upon entering the sixth room, you will find a Dark Bones lying in front of a locked door on the right side of the room. Once you interact with it, a lot of Dry Bones will fall from the ceiling and fill the whole room.

Note that you need to find the Dark Bones amongst the horde of Dry Bones to progress through the chapter. Using the hammer will help remove a bunch of the Dry Bones and you can find the Dark bones easier.

Follow the Light of the Torch

Upon entering the ninth room, always go through the door near a lit torch. The other three doors that have no lit torch will only get you lost and return you to the hall before the torch rooms.

The correct sequence of doors to go through would be lower right, lower right, upper right, lower left, upper right, upper left, lower right. If done correctly, you will end up in the courtyard in front of the Palace of Shadow Tower.

Palace of Shadow Tower

The tower is located in the middle of the palace courtyard in the Palace of Shadow. You can access the tower by hitting the two blue ! blocks in the background after destroying the Chain Chomp statues.

Use the Star Stone obtained from Gloomtail to unlock the doors inside the tower, and completing the tower's riddles to get the eight Tower Keys needed to progress through the chapter.

Use Bobbery to Destroy Chain Chomp Statues

The Chain Chomp statues in the palace courtyard can be destroyed by using Bobbery's field ability. Throw him into the maws of the statues to blow them up.

All Partner Abilities

Secret Room Next to Gloomtail's

After defeating Gloomtail, you can use Admiral Bobbery to blow up the cracked part of the wall on the right. This will lead you to a hidden room containing three ? Blocks.

How to Defeat Gloomtail

Star Puzzle in Gear Room One

You may notice a line of stars on the wall near the Chain Chomp in Gear Room Two. Take note of all the stars that are lit up here, since this is the solution to the star puzzle in Gear Room One, which can be accessed by getting the Palace Key from Gear Room Two, unlocking the door, and using Tube Mode to get up the narrow part of the stairs.

The correct stars that need to be lit in the puzzle are the first, third, fourth, and sixth stars. You can light each star by hitting the red ! block beneath each one.

Bosses in Palace of Shadow

The Palace of Shadow has the most bosses to fight than any other location, considering that this is the final chapter in the game.

Gloomtail the Dragon

Gloomtail is located in the room across the five hallways on the right side of the palace garden. Upon defeating the dragon, she will drop a chest containing the Star Stone needed for the Palace of Shadow Tower.

Do note that after completing the Tower to unlock the lower floors of the Palace of Shadow, you will not be able to go back in Gloomtail's room.

Doopliss, Beldam, and Marilyn

Doopliss, Beldam, and Marilyn will confront Mario at the entrance of the door that leads to the lower floors of the palace after you complete the Palace of Shadow Tower.

Sir Grodus

Sir Grodus can be found sitting on the throne in the main hall on the lower floors of the palace. The main hall is the room across the five descended hallways.

Do note that when battling against Sir Grodus, he summons a couple of Grodus X that creates a shield for him.

Bowser and Kammy Koopa

After battling with Sir Grodus in the main hall, you will have to battle with Bowser and Kammy Koopa, who will both fall from the ceiling and crush Sir Grodus momentarily.

Final Boss: Shadow Queen

During the events in the main hall, the Shadow Queen gets resurrected and is located on the lowest floor in the palace. Note that you will have to defeat her two times and all of her stats will be the same for both battles.
