Get to know the rich story of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (TTYD) and learn some tips and tricks from our guides. Here are some tips and tricks to help players get started on Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door!
Defeating enemies is the only way for Mario and his party to level up. Given this, it's highly recommended to fight all enemies encountered throughout the playthrough and refrain from running away from battles. Doing so ensures Mario and his party won't be outmatched as the game progresses.
Using items during battles can help Mario and his party to quickly deal with enemies or recover their HP. Items like Fire Flowers and Ice Storms can damage multiple enemies at once, making clearing battles easier and faster. On the other hand, items like Life Shroom will ressurect Mario or his partner in the event that either of them falls during battles and heal them for 10 HP.
It's best to choose Badge Points to increase the number of Badges that can be equipped. Also, since there are Badges that increase HP and FP already, it would make more sense to just increase the number of equippable Badges.
In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (TTYD), Mario can now switch partners while in the overworld thanks to the new Partner Ring feature. Utilizing this feature allows Mario to use their special skills to accomplish tasks and progress through the story.
This feature was not in the original version of the game and is an entirely new feature for the remake.
Partner Ring Feature
Apart from leveling up Mario, upgrading his partners will be also be benefitial as the game progresses. Doing so will unlock their more powerful attacks that they can use during battles, allowing Mario and his party to win them faster.
Accumulating plenty of coins allows Mario to buy useful items at shops, stay at an inn to fully recover, and play at the Pianta Parlor. These things will help Mario progress through the story more efficiently.
Star Power allows Mario and his party to use Special moves. These moves can deal great damage to opponents or heal and buff Mario and his party member. Mario can charge his Star Power by exciting the audience.
The audience plays an important role during battles. They can help or hurt Mario and his party. If they get excited, Mario gains Star Power, allowing him and his party to use Special moves during battles. On the other hand, the audience can also cause some trouble for Mario and his party by throwing things on the stage while the battle is going on, dealing damage to them.
Keep an eye on the audience and react accordingly. Always try to excite the audience but also watch out for any troublemakers.
Guarding enemy attacks is just as important as dealing damage to them. Successfully guarding attacks mitigates the damage inflicted by enemies. However, players do need proper timing to pull off a successful guard.
Mario and his party has a lot of moves they can use during battles. Understanding how each move works and knowing what move to use in a particular situation allow players to make better decisions during battles and win them. Generally, using powerful moves is the most obvious action to make.
