This is a guide on how to level up fast in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (TTYD). Read on to learn how to level up fast and what is the game's maximum level cap.
Defeating enemies is the only way for Mario and his party to level up. Given this, it's highly recommended to fight all enemies encountered throughout the playthrough and refrain from running away from battles. Doing so ensures Mario and his party won't be outmatched as the game progresses.
In the early game, it's a good strategy to use Fire Flowers and POW Blocks since you will be lacking attack power to easily defeat the enemies.
Once Madame Flurrie joins your party during Chapter 2, you can use her Gale Force move to defeat any enemy, regardless of their HP.

The amount of Star Points given depends on the enemy's level. Lower level enemies will give less Star Points, so when Mario and his party increases in level, they need to defeat stronger foes to get more Star Points.
Move | Character and Explanation |
---|---|
Quake Hammer |
Mario • Can attack all enemies on the ground and air. • Can ignore defenses, making it easy to wipe out enemies. |
Multibounce |
Mario • Can attack all enemies on the ground. • Has low BP and FP consumption. |
Gale Force |
Madame Flurrie • Mario and his party will receive experience points just like when defeating enemies. |
Stampede |
Yoshi • Easy to use all-out attack. • Consumes less FP compared to other all-out attacks. |
Amazy Dayzee appears with a low probability in the Twilight Trail. Although Amazy Dayzee is difficult to beat, defeating it will give Mario and his party a lot of experience, which can level up Mario and his party much faster.
Twilight Trail Collectibles, Enemies, and Points of Interest
Amazy Dayzee's attacks deal 20 damage to all enemies and put Mario and his party to sleep, so it's best to use special moves or FP skills to defeat it in one turn.
If Mario and his party could not defeat Amazy Dayzee in one turn, guarding its attacks will prevent them from falling asleep, so be sure to guard the attacks perfectly.
Climbing and reaching the 100th floor of the Pit of 100 Trials is also a great way to level up faster and more efficiently. Crazee Dayzee may also appear in one of the battles, which gives more experience.
The 100th floor dungeon allows Mario and his party to earn experience points efficiently, but it is extremely difficult to beat compared to other stages. With this in mind, it's best to make sure Mario and his party's level is high enough to allow them to consistently clear enemies in the 100th floor.
The maximum level in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Remake is 99. It will take a considerable amount of time to reach level 99, but players can try to do so if they want to maximize Mario's strength.
Star Points are essentially experience points used for leveling up Mario. Once Mario collects 100 Star Points, he can level up.
Each time Mario levels up, he'll have the option to increase the character's maximum Heart Points (HP) by five, Flower Points (FP) by five, or Badge Points (BP) by three.
