The fastest way to deplete an enemy's Fortitude is by using Special Battle Arts when they attempt to unleash a Dangerous Attack marked by a glowing orange circle.
Striking an enemy will momentarily stagger their stance. This creates an opening for you to continue your barrage of attacks during their downtime, and fully take down their Fortitude.
Performing a combination of normal and strong attacks, Battle Arts, and performing parries are the fastest way to deplete Fortitude. Make sure to land them all, especially when an Enemy becomes staggered.

Once an enemy's Fortitude is fully depleted—indicated by their shields turning gray—you can unleash an Assault by pressing the displayed prompt, dealing devastating damage.

Fortitude is represented by the yellow shields above an Enemy Officer's head, indicating their defense level and ability to guard or deal attacks. As you land hits, these shields deplete, eventually leaving the enemy vulnerable to an Assault once they are knocked down.

Red shields appear when an enemy's Courage is boosted due to being rallied by their forces. These shields are tougher to break than standard yellow shields but can be depleted using the same methods.
