Zhang Jiao Boss Tips and Tricks

Find Meat Buns at the Entrance

Find Meat Buns at the Entrance

Zhang Jiao will be a long boss fight. Should you run low on healing options during the battle, take note that there are pots containing Meat Buns that can be found near the entrance to the arena.

Attack After Zhang Jiao's Rock Throws

It's best to take advantage of attacking Zhang Jiao after his rock throws since he is locked in a landing animation during this time. Use this opportunity to close the gap for a strike or Battle Arts.

Evade Zhang Jiao's AoE Attacks

Evade Zhang Jiao

When Zhang Jiao is around 50%-60% HP, he will most likely start using his huge AoE attacks which is signified by a red circular attack indicator. During this time, he can do any of his two AoE moves: summoning giant rocks to drop around him or to throw at you. When this happens, create some distance from Zhang Jiao to evade the attack.

War God Rage Activates When He is at 40% HP

War God Rage becomes available for you to use when Zhang Jiao is at around 40% health. Using it will grant you temporary invincibility, as well as increased attack range and infinite use of Battle Arts. When the rage is fully depleted, you will unlease a True Musou Attack.

Take advantage of using War God Rage to deal the most damage to Zhang Jiao since you will be immune to damage and stun from his attacks during this state.

Disband Zhang Jiao's Large Force

At around 1/3 of Zhang Jiao's health, his Large Force will come to his aid in the fight. Hold off his soldiers first until your allies join you in the arena.

At this point, Zhang Jiao will unleash Thunderous Tempest where tornadoes will roam around the area. Defeat enough enemies to put an end on this attack.

It is best to defeat his offcers first to cause his army to disband. Afterwards, you can focus on a safer 1-on-1 fight with Zhang Jiao.

Time Dodges to his Lightning Strikes

During his large force phase, you are likely to be targeted by lightning strikes. To evade them, make sure you are in a dodge animation by the time they strike. Dodging has enough invulnerability frames to help you get through the attack.

To get the timing of the lightning strike, pay attention to the electrical circle appearing at your feet. Lightning will soon strike when the circle begins pulsating fast.
