How to Use Lance

Flinches on Normal Counters

The Lance is basically a counter-based weapon, offering you plenty of options to follow-up successful counters. In particular, the normal counter executed by holding the strong attack input flinches enemies in front of you, even officers.

Allows You to Endure Attacks

Enduring attacks allows you to absorb hits and add the damage to your own attacks. Especially when surrounded, Enduring attacks leads to more devastating damage.

Furthermore, you can pretty much counter from any input, even when evading. Since the guard input is also the strong attack input, you can still counter attacks even if you fail to guard.

Deal Plenty of Damage from Counters

Pulling off counters often opens up enemies and gives you plenty of slow-mos and staggers. During post-counter windows, you can perform attacks and arts, allowing you to dish out impressive damage numbers each time.

Endured Evade Input Attack

Input Description
PS4 - Left Stick + hold PS5 - Triangle Button (when an attack is endured) while PS4 - R2 Button evading
XBOX - Left Stick + hold XBOX - Y Button (when an attack is endured) while XBOX - Right Trigger evading
W ButtonA ButtonS ButtonD Button + hold Right Click (when an attack is endured) while Space Button evading
 [Upgrade] Release another shockwave from your thrust.

When you Endure an attack while evading into a Heavy attack, you can fire off a far-reaching linear shockwave that will hit all enemies within the attack's range.

Endured Guard Heavy Attack Input

Input Description
PS4 - L1 Button + hold PS5 - Triangle Button (when an attack is endured)
XBOX - Left Bumper + hold XBOX - Y Button (when an attack is endured)
Shift + hold Right Click (when an attack is endured)
 [Upgrade] Launch enemies into the air and then jump up to do a follow-up strike.

Think of this as an aerial version of the Endured Evade Input Attack, except that you guard and not evade into a Heavy attack. Performing this move will make you jump, allowing you to unleash a powerful AoE slam with plenty of crowd-control.

Best Combos to Use

Lance Arts

Arts Bravery Req. Effect
(Sp.) Crouching Tiger Strike (Sp.) Crouching Tiger Strike 4 Immobilize enemies with your lance and slam them into the ground. This Special can interrupt certain attacks and stagger the enemy.
Battle Cry Blast Battle Cry Blast 4 Gather up your strength and belt out a deafening yell that inflicts damage on enemies. If you are attacked while gathering power, the effect with be strengthened.
Crushing Earth Gambit Crushing Earth Gambit 5 Dig into the earth with your lance and launch it upward, causing debris to rain down and strike enemies. Debris will also hit you but can be endured.
Focused Will Focused Will 3 Calm your spirit to restore your strength. Your rate of recovery from endured attacks will be greatly increased for a set amount of time.
Inner Fire Fury Inner Fire Fury 5 Use your dominating aura to launch a shockwave. Hold the button to continue firing shockwaves by consuming Health for as long as it is above the threshold.
Relentless Charge Relentless Charge 3 Charge with your lance at the ready, catching enemies in your path and sending them flying.
Skirmisher Strike Skirmisher Strike 2 Unleash consecutive forward attacks. Can be performed rapidly.
Spirit Wave Spirit Wave 3 Swing your lance around, sending surrounding enemies flying.
Tenacious Heart Tenacious Heart 3 Concentrate your Bravery to strengthen yourself, allowing you to endure all attacks for a set amount of time.
Vengeful Stormquake Vengeful Stormquake 2 If you endure enemy attacks while swinging the lance, your final blow will be strengthened. Holding the button increases the number of attacks.
