Choices Matter in Chapter 3, the Ending, and Saving Ally Officers
There are only three choices in-game that matter, namely: choosing which faction to serve in Chapter 3, becoming a General or a Shadow during the ending, and saving ally officers fated to die in specific missions. These choices can change the game's narrative and splits the game into different endings.
However, do note that players can return to when these choices are made during post-game. Story Mode can allow players to make different choices, experience the change in narrative, and collect any missables along the way.

Faction Choice in Chapter 3
The faction choice dictates how the game will proceed in Chapter 4 and Chapter 5. Siding with a faction will lock Wanderer into fighting alongside them, thereby unlocking all future missions and bonds related to the faction.
Note that choosing a faction would mean blocking all progress with the other factions until post-game.
Appears After the Contribution Missions in Chapter 3
The choice appears in the Chapter 3, where Wanderer is tasked to complete the contribution missions of each faction. Players may feel free to complete all missions available, but will eventually have to pick between the Wu, Shu, and Wei factions before starting Chapter 4.
General or Shadows Choice in the Ending
The General or Shadows choice will affect how Wanderer will proceed after the events of the main story. The choice will change the text that appears after the credits, highlighting Wanderer's feats as a general or a shadow depending on the choice selected.
Should You Become a General or a Shadow?
Appears During the Ending
The choice appears during the ending, after finishing the faction's final story mission. The choice is prompted regardless of faction served or ending achieved.
Choosing to Save Ally Officers for True Ending
Choosing to save ally officers fated to die in specific missions can change the faction's ending. Do note that this is not an in-game dialogue choice, but instead requires active participation from the player to save the ally in the mission.
Saving these allies require winning difficult fights or finishing fights in time, which may be near impossible during the first playthrough. Players can wait until post-game for this challenge when stronger equipment and skills are available.

All Allies Whose Fate Can be Altered
Saving the allies listed above alters their fate and fulfills a requirement in achieving their faction's true ending. The notification "Fate Altered" will appear after a succesful attempt in saving their life.
Additionally, saving at least one ally from death unlocks the Defying Fate achievement.

Dialogue Choices Do Not Matter
Dialogue choices prompted during cutscenes will not affect the story's outcome. This includes choices that appear during bond events, where dialogue selected will not affect the bond's progression.
