Dynasty Warriors: Origins brought along changes to the usual formula of the franchise. Check out the new game features and the differences from previous games!
List of Contents

In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you are introduced to Wanderer, an entirely new character in the franchise. He is a martial artist who has lost his memories. As you go through the story of the Three Kingdoms, you play the entire game solely from his point of view.
During battle, you mostly play as Wanderer as well, with the exception of being able to switch characters if you decide to bring a companion.

The overworld map allows you to traverse freely through the continent of the Three Kingdoms. From here, you are able to interact with various characters, collect items, visit cities, and choose your next battles.

Battle Arts are special moves that allow for powerful attacks and countering against enemy officer attacks. Using Battle Arts use up your Bravery, which is a gauge that fills up when you are attacking enemy forces.
Depending on the weapon, you can equip any Battle Art you want before a battle to really customize the combat to your liking.

In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, guarding against an attack at the right time allows you to parry. Succession of a parry staggers the enemy and can be followed-up with a flurry of attacks after.
On the other hand, you can also choose to dodge enemy attacks instead. This is a more reliable way to avoid getting damaged as it is difficult to tell which attacks may be guardable or not. Unlocking certain skills can even reward dodging with Bravery gain.

Enemy officers are no pushovers, as they are granted the same combat features as you, specifically the use of Battle Arts and Tactics. They are especially dangerous if their forces' Morale is high.
To overcome them, you must deplete their Fortitude, represented by the shield icons above their health bar. Fortitude indicates the enemy officer's defense and ability to guard and deal attacks.
Grand Tactics occur when a large portion of the ally or enemy force rally to launch a huge attack on the opposing force. An objective pops up for you to do in order to either stop the enemy Grand Tactic or lead the success of the ally Grand Tactic.
Make sure to stop the enemy's Grand Tactics from succeeding and ensure that your allies succeed with theirs, as whoever completes their own gets to have their Morale significantly raised.

Compared to previous Dynasty Warriors games, where you can control a wide variety of characters, you are only limited to controlling Wanderer in Origins. The exception to this is when you can temporarily switch between characters in battle if you decide to bring a companion beforehand. There are not that many companions either compared to previous titles, although they mitigate this by giving Wanderer a wide range of combat customization.

There are 10 weapon types you can choose from in Origins, which seems like a small number when comparing it to the number of weapons you can use in previous titles. However, with the introduction of Battle Arts, each weapon feels like they have much more usability and customization.
