Whether you are on Wei or Shu route, this is a joint battle against Lu Bu. Defeating him will result in a victory.
The battle will result in a defeat if Cao Cao or Liu Bei is forced to flee. Make sure to come to their assistance whenever needed.

The Battle of Xiapi becomes accessible after progressing the story following the completion of the Escape from Xiaopei in both Wei and Shu routes in Chapter 4.

To reach Lu Bu, defeat Chen Gong's Large Force at the south of the map. You do not have to capture all of the bases in the battlefield; you only need to make it to the castle and defeat Chen Gong's Large Force.
You can join your allies going down east to help secure the Guard Tower. Capturing it will give you access to the castle's main gate.

Lu Bu becomes accessible to fight once Chen Gong's Large Force has been defeated at the south. The Battle of Xiapi will conclude with the Battle Results first before sending you to fight in Lu Bu's arena.

During the fight with Lu Bu, take care to conserve Meat Buns and make use of War God Rage for temporary invincibility when needed.
Do enough damage to him in the beginning of the fight to get him to dismount his horse. He will then fight you on foot from there on until the end of the battle.
If aiming to get Lu Bu's horse, you will have to make sure to never use Meat Buns or Portable Items during the battle in Ultimate Warrior difficulty.

Weapon Proficiency will be rewarded based on the weapons used in battle. Ranking up weapon proficiency raises Wanderer's level, and reaching certain levels will unlock new skill trees to spend skill points on.

Skill points and Mount EXP are also awarded based on the number of enemies defeated and which Horse was used.
These rewards vary greatly depending on the Wanderer's performance during battle.
Lu Bu's horse, Red Hare, can be obtained from completing the Battle of Xiapi under the following conditions:
Ultimate Warrior difficulty only becomes accessible after having completed the main story for the first time.
