| Warning: Some spoilers ahead for Dynasty Warriors: Origins. |

The main point of Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 is for you to be able to spend time with characters from each of the forces of Cao Cao, Liu Bei, and the Sun family to see who you personally align with more. This should influence your decision on who to side with in Chapter 3.
For those still undecided, below is more context on each faction.
| Cao Cao's Forces | Cao Cao is the ambitious and ruthless ruler of what will eventually become Wei. His storyline deals more with poltiics and the vast expansion of his territory to become the strongest in the land—which brings about his villainous reputation, both in-game and outside. Cao Cao's forces clash with Liu Bei's forces frequently. |
|---|---|
| Liu Bei's Forces | On the other hand, we have the “benevolent” Liu Bei. His storyline deals with the consequences of recruiting Lu Bu and being, initially, the least powerful force among the three factions, as Liu Bei tends to prioritize righteousness over winning. Liu Bei's forces clash with Cao Cao's forces frequently. |
| Sun Clan's Forces | The Sun Clan's forces are the most isolated of the three factions. Their storyline mainly has them fighting minor factions and dealing with the internal turmoil within Wu. |
| The final battle for all factions in Chapter 5 is the Battle of Chibi, where Liu Bei's and Sun Quan's forces unite against Cao Cao's seemingly more powerful army. The battle results in Cao Cao's crushing defeat. |

There's no major gameplay difference between choosing any of the three leaders: Cao Cao, Liu Bei, or the Sun family. However, the largest difference in choosing who to side with is that you lose access to the Companions from the 2 other factions.
This means that you can't increase your bond with them and you can't have them as Companions in battles for the remainder of the story (Chapters 4 and 5).
However, after you complete the story, you'll unlock the ability to replay chapters and battles, which includes being able to go back and choose a different faction from your original choice.
List of All Playable Companions
There are several varying points where you get to choose which faction to side with in Chapter 3 but not all of them lock you out entirely of the other faction just yet. Below is the flowchart of when the important choices occur.
| Chapter 3 Battles and Choices | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| - | Wei (Cao Cao's Forces) |
Shu (Liu Bei's Forces) |
Wu (Sun Jian / Sun Ce's Forces) |
| 1 | Suppression of Yan Province | Battle of Jieqiao | Assault of Nanyang |
| 2 | ↓ | Battle of Beihai | Siege of Fan Castle |
| 3 | ↓ | Battle of Xiangyang | |
| “Time is passing”: Locked out of factions you didn't complete all above battles for. | |||
| 4 | Battle of Xu Province (Choice: Between Wei or Shu. Locked out of the one not chosen.) |
- | |
| 5 | - | Battle of Xiaopei (Choice: Between Shu or Wu. Locked out of the one not chosen.) |
|
| 6 | Battle of Puyang | Rescue of Lu Bu | Battle of Lujiang |
| 7 | Battle of Yu Province | Confirmed to Join Shu | ↓ |
| 8 | Second Battle of Puyang | - | |
| 9 | Rescue of Emperor Xian | ||
| 10 | Final Choice to join Wei | Final Choice to join Wu | |
If you've completed Rescue of the Emperor for Wei and Battle of Lujiang for Wu, you can tell either faction I need some time to think. if you're still unsure about siding with their faction. Afterward, go to the faction you do want to join and confirm your choice.
| Note that the statements below are subjective opinions of the walkthrough team. The best ending still depends from person to person. |

Arguably the best ending for the game's overarching story is the Shu Faction's True Ending. This conclusion offers the most hopeful resolution, depicting a time of peace and prosperity under Liu Bei's leadership, where the people thrive happily instead of enduring suffering.
While it deviates from the established narrative in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms epic, the optimism and justice that define this ending make it the most fulfilling and impactful conclusion in the game.
