Block His Crescent Blade Use Assaults with Officers Use Tactics and Companions

Block His Crescent Blade

Guan Yu uses a Crescent Blade to attack, so most of his moves are wide-sweeping. However, his attacks are slower than most, so he should be easier to read for blocks compared to other officers with faster weapons.

Make use of parries and blocks for his horizontal and vertical swings, and use Special Battle Arts when he uses his orange attack. Evading also helps in avoiding his swings, but some his consecutive attacks may catch you at the end of your dodge.

Use Assaults with Officers

Guan Yu will likely be bunched up with other officers in the fight. Take advantage of beating down other officers when he is nearby and going for Assaults to stun him.

Use Tactics and Companions

Since Guan Yu may sometimes be paired with other officers in the field, you'll want to use Tactics such as Charge for dealing some damage and crowd control. Use your Eyes of the Sacred Bird to scan the field and keep a watch on his position.

Challenge Walkthrough

1	At the start of the battle, immediately head towards Guan Yu's location, in front of Xiapi Castle. Xun Yu will advise you not to face Guan Yu head on. Ignore his suggestion for this challenge. While fighting Guan Yu, Liu Bei and Zhang Fei will arrive, bringing in reinforcements. They will then start to target Cao Cao and the rest of their forces will start to overwhelm your allies. Because of this, you will need to beat Guan Yu before Cao Cao is defeated. Ideally, you have about 7 minutes to do so.
2	After beating Guan Yu, rush towards Liu Bei and Zhang Fei and defeat them before Cao Cao is forced to flee by their hands. The both of them will not be as powerful as Guan Yu, so you will have an easier time dealing with them.
3	Head back to Xiapi Castle after securing Cao Cao's safety and defeat the enemy officers stationed in there. As there is no more time pressure by this point, feel free to look for Meat Bun pots and recover lost health.
4	Guan Yu will reappear within Xiapi Castle. You will have to defeat him one last time to complete the challenge.

The main goal of this Ultimate Warrior Challenge is to defeat Guan Yu before he returns to Xiapi Castle. Fighting him as soon as possible prevents him from even leaving his location, therefore stopping him from needing to return at all. Ignore fighting all other enemy officers until Guan Yu is defeated.

Use Your Strongest Weapon With the Highest Proficiency

Keeping Guan Yu from returning to the castle is easy, but it is defeating him within a short timeframe that will be difficult. Guan Yu will be very tanky and his attacks will especially be difficult to deal with on Ultimate Warrior difficulty. Which is why it is advised you bring your best weapon with the highest Weapon Proficiency to the fight. It is recommended to choose a weapon that is Grade 7 or higher as anything lower will not suffice.

Be Careful When Guan Yu Uses God War Rage

When Guan Yu's health reaches about 70%, he will be able to use God War Rage. The best way to deal with this is to use God War Rage yourself to counter him. If your Musou gauge is not full by then, then be extra careful of his attacks and make sure you know to counter or evade the more dangerous ones.

In the chaos of battle, remember you can bring items to help give you that boost in difficult battles. Against Guan Yu, bringing a Spirit Pill to restore Musou can help a lot to achieve God War Rage against him. You can take a a Strength Potion as well to increase your attack by 60% for a limited time.

Guan Yu will be accompanied by a large group of soldiers. If you need to restore your Musou or your Bravery while fighting him, you can always briefly attack the nearby troops to fill your gauges. Just be careful if he decides to take advantage of your shifted focus to attack you. Always be aware of your surroundings.

Dodge More Instead of Guarding

Evading is crucial in this fight, especially if you have unlocked the skill, Perfect Evade. This skill restores your Bravery with each perfectly-timed dodge. Dodging Guan Yu's attacks to gain Bravery, then using them up to attack him back, will set you up for success in this challenge.
