How to Progress Chapter 3

Make Contributions to Your Chosen Faction

In Chapter 3, missions are color-coded and counted as Contributions for their respective factions. You're free to make Contributions during this time to explore and help you decide which faction you want to side with.

If you have already decided which faction to join, you can go ahead and make Contributions for your faction and ignore the others.

Should You Choose Liu Bei, Sun Jian, or Cao Cao?

Depends on Player Preference

The faction you wish to join depends entirely on your preference and whose story you wish to see unfold.

Joining a faction changes the companions you'll pair up with and the battles you'll face going forward.

Liu Bei (Shu) Contribution Guide

Liu Bei Contribution Guide
1	Head to Pingyuan in Qing Province to trigger a cutscene with Liu Bei and his allies.
2	Start the Battle of Jieqiao in Ji Province which is right across Pingyuan. ┣ Head south and fight your way through until you reach Gongsun Zan. ┣ Advance north together with the main forces and help allies as needed. ┗ Launch and assault with your allies on Yuan Shao's base and defeat him to complete the mission.
3	Start the Battle of Beihai in Qing Province. ┣ Advance towards Kong Rong's garrison in the northeast. ┣ Destroy the enemy's siege weapons when they arrive. ┗ Defend the garrison from incoming forces and defeat Guan Hai to complete the mission.
4	Speak to Liu Bei in Qing Province. You'll be notified that "Time is passing." which will prevent you from making contributions for other factions. If you still wish to help other factions, now is the time to do so.
5	Start the Battle of Xu Province. If you made a contribution to Cao Cao earlier, choose to side with Liu Bei. ┣ Advance with your allies and occupy the bases on the north side of the map. ┣ Help Liu Bei and defend your base from the enemy siege. ┗ Go on the offensive and defeat Cao Cao and his large force to complete the mission.
6	Start the Battle of Xiaopei in Xu Province. If you made a contribution to Sun Jian earlier, choose to side with Liu Bei. ┣ Advance with your allies and occupy enemy bases. ┣ Assist Liu Bei when the enemy attacks him. ┗ Defeat Sun Ce and Ji Ling in the southeast corner of the map to complete the mission.
7	Start the Rescue of Lu Bu in Xu Province. ┣ Head towards Lu Bu and escort him towards the escape point. ┣ Assist Liu Bei if he is struggling in holding off the enemy. ┗ Defeat Cao Cao to secure the escape point and complete the mission.
8	Read Liu Bei's letter and speak to him to trigger a cutscene. Select "I'll join you." to join Liu Bei's faction and proceed to Chapter 4.

Sun Jian (Wu) Contribution Guide

Sun Jian Contribution Guide
1	Head to Sun Jian Camp in Jing Province to trigger a cutscene with Sun Jian and his allies.
2	Start the Assault on Nanyang just beside Sun Jian Camp. ┣ Help Sun Jian, Sun Ce, and Sun Shangxiang secure the bases they are pushing. ┣ Launch an assault on Liu Biao's large force and defeat him to complete the mission. ┗ Sun Jian will be fighting on the frontline so make sure he doesn't fall!
3	Start the Siege of Fan Castle in Jing Province. ┣ Occupy the northeast base then join your allies in sieging Fan Castle. ┣ Defend the battering ram from enemy officers. If the battering ram is destroyed, you'll have to wait until another spawns. ┣ Enter Fan Castle either by climbing the ladders set up by Sun Ce or through the main gate after it's destroyed by the battering ram. ┗ Defeat Huang Zu to complete the mission.
4	Start the Battle of Xiangyang in Jing Province. ┣ Advance, defeat enemy officers, and occupy enemy bases until a cutscene triggers where Sun Jian is slain. ┗ Assist Sun Ce in retreating to the southeast corner of the map to complete the mission.
5	Speak to Sun Ce and you'll be notified that "Time is passing.", which will prevent you from making contributions for other factions. If you still wish to help other factions, now is the time to do so.
6	Start the Battle of Xiaopei in Xu Province. If you made a contribution to Liu Bei earlier, choose to side with Sun Ce. ┣ Assist your allies in taking over the surrounding bases. ┣ Repel the enemy forces pushing towards your main base. ┗ Siege Liu Bei's base in the northwest corner of the map and defeat him to complete the mission.
6	Start the Battle of Lujiang. ┣ Advance and take all bases to complete the mission. ┗ Alternatively, you can defeat Lu Kang to win.
7	Start the Escape from Danyang in Yang Province. ┣ Advance towards the enemy's main camp. ┣ Be wary of the archers by the river. ┗ Defeat Han Yin to secure the location and complete the mission.
8	Read Zhou Yu's letter to unlock the option of joining Sun Jian's forces.

Cao Cao (Wei) Contribution Guide

Cao Cao Contribution Guide
1	Head to Puyang in Yan Province to trigger a cutscene with Cao Cao and his allies.
2	Start the Suppression of Yan Province to the southeast of Puyang. ┣ Occupy the bases in the middle of the map. ┣ Dispatch the large forces on the northwest and southeast side of the map. ┗ Defeat the Large Central Force on the northeast to complete the mission.
3	Speak to Cao Cao and you'll be notified that "Time is passing.", which will prevent you from making contributions for other factions. If you still wish to help other factions, now is the time to do so.
4	Start the Battle of Xu Province in Yan Province. ┣ Defend your base and assist struggling allies, prioritizing Cao Cao. ┣ Siege Liu Bei's base by protecting the battering ram. ┗ Defeat Liu Bei to complete the mission.
5	Start the Battle of Puyang in Yan Province. ┣ Take over 10 bases to complete the mission. ┗ The alternate win condition is to defeat Lu Bu, Zhang Liao, and Chen Gong but is more difficult. ▶︎ How to Beat Lu Bu
6	Start the Battle of Yu Province. ┗ Defeat Huang Shao, He Yi, and the "Mysterious Warrior" to complete the mission.
7	Start the Second Battle of Puyang in Yan Province. ┗ Surround the enemy base and defeat Lu Bu to make him retreat and complete the mission.
7	Start the Rescue of Emperor Xian in Sili Province. ┣ Escort the carriage to the escape point. ┗ Defeat the large forces of Li Jue and Guo Si to complete the mission.
8	Read Cao Cao's letter and talk to Xiahou Dun to join Cao Cao's faction and proceed to Chapter 4.
