A Futuristic World with Solid Storytelling

Tower of Fantasy Story and World.png

Tower of Fantasy is set in the distant future on a world known as Aida, where humans have built a new civilization. A great tragedy has befallen mankind due to their unending search for resources, but somehow humanity has rebuilt from the ashes to create a world steeped in both the futuristic and lush natural beauty.

Although the atmosphere of the game starts out light, the main story quickly shows its serious nature and pulls the player in. Let's be honest, it's no Casablanca, but for those who enjoy a relatively meaty story with their Gacha, Tower of Fantasy has a surprising amount to offer. If you find that you enjoy the world and the overall style of the game, give it a try and see how the story unfolds.

Character Designs True to the Style

Tower of Fantasy Simulacrum.png

Tower of Fantasy features a host of cool and cute characters that fit the theme of the world. The game has a consistent aesthetic, so you won't be seeing any truly wacky characters running around here.

However, if you enjoy good-looking anime characters, Tower of Fantasy is a great game for you and won't let you down by the designs.

All Characters and Weapons

Create and Share Your Own Characters!

Tower of Fantasy Share Your Custom Characters.png

One way Tower of Fantasy sets itself apart from Genshin Impact is with its character creation feature. After choosing your gender, you're free from that point on to design a character to your liking, and players have already run the gamut of recreating characters from popular anime and games within Tower of Fantasy.

You can even share codes for your created characters, and use codes made by others to import their designs directly! This makes Tower of Fantasy great for those who enjoy character customization.

Limited Potential for Quirkiness

Although it works well for characters which match its style, Tower of Fantasy's character creator doesn't throw any bones to players who want to make quirkier characters which break the mold.

If you wanted to make a buff cueball biker who doesn't mess around but still loves his momma, we're sorry to say that the options here won't treat you kindly.

An Easy to Learn and Flashy Battle System

Tower of Fantasy Big Action.gif

Although Tower of Fantasy offers detailed combo charts for experienced players, most of the action can be executed by simply mashing a single button. Despite its simplicity, each weapon has a unique playstyle that's easy to grasp, and their powerful attacks will make the player feel strong without any monotony.

It's always satisfying to achieve a perfect dodge, which creates an effect called Phantasia in which enemies stop in their tracks and further combos can be executed easily. Compared to more hardcore action games like Elden Ring or Monster Hunter, perfect dodges in Tower of Fantasy are relatively easy to do as the window is wide and enemies clearly telegraph their attacks.

The result is a battle system which casual action game players can enjoy without frustration, and more dedicated players still have enough to sink their teeth into. Once PvP is unlocked, those who want to push the game's action system to its limits will be able to take a step further as well.

Apex League Guide and List of Rewards

Gacha is Generous and Forgiving

Forgiveness and Rebirth Icon.png

The gacha system in Tower of Fantasy is often brought up as a selling point, and for good reason.

The rates for drawing an SSR character from a banner stands at 0.75% for a single pull, and averages at 2% including the guaranteed SR or SSR on every 10 pulls. That's a huge jump from Genshin's 0.6% rate for drawing 5-star characters.

There's also a guaranteed SSR on every 80 pulls, a bump up from Genshin's 90. On your first time through the standard permanent banner, you'll even get a guaranteed SSR in your first 30 pulls, a little bonus Pity the game doesn't tell you about but lays in your hand with a wink and a shush.

The whole gacha system is filled with more examples of quality-of-life choices, and the launch day rewards have done nothing but rain down goodies on new players like it's Christmas. It's a simple way for the game to set itself apart, but we're not complaining.

MMORPG: A World Filled With Players

Tower of Fantasy World Full of Players.png

Seeing other players roam about in the field as you progress through quests and explore the world makes you feel like you're in a world which is really alive. The presence of Crews and a Friend system really bring an MMO vibe to this game.

World Bosses, extremely powerful bosses with huge health bars, are designed to require multiple players to take them down. Aspects like these are built into the game to create a shared experience among players that sets it apart from single-player RPGs and gacha games.

Controls and Platforming Can Be Frustrating

Tower of Fantasy Falling From Ladder.gif

Whether you're playing on PC or Mobile, navigating the world of Tower of Fantasy can be frustrating. Navigating across narrow platforms and climbing up tall cliffs is par for the course in this world, but you can find yourself accidentally falling off or being unable to move as expected, especially on small screens.

Controller Support Needs Improvement

While the game offers controller support, there are too many situations where controllers are not optimized for. When playing on PC, even in cases where you're able to open a menu with a controller, you're still forced to click on the individual icons with the mouse. We're hoping to see these issues fixed in future updates.

Is It Better Than Genshin?

Genshin Impact Liyue.png

Pros Cons
・Adds PvP and brings Multiplayer elements to the forefront
・Character customization allows for players to look unique in the MMO world
・Gacha system is more generous
・World is not as large and distinctive as Genshin's as of the moment
・Main quests rarely include challenging puzzles
・Lower focus on material farming makes for a reduced need to explore the world
・Time-gated contents slightly forces you to stop at some point.

We know what you're really here for – at the end of the day, how does Tower of Fantasy stack up against Genshin Impact?

Overall, Tower of Fantasy does a great job of bringing the Open World Gacha experience into the MMO space, and new multiplayer features like Raids, World Bosses, and PvP further accentuate this. This is why you shouldn't play Tower of Fantasy as a replacement for Genshin – it's best enjoyed for its own merits, and when viewed as a Genshin clone, it is simply doomed from the start, since who can do Genshin like Genshin?

Both games have their advantages, and we're not here to pick a side. Players who find that they enjoy the new elements that Tower of Fantasy brings to the table are in for a fun ride, and if you prefer Genshin Impact, feel free to stick to your guns (and check out our wiki while you're at it!)
