CHAOS Difficulty Mode and Features

Higher Difficulty For Missions

CHAOS Difficulty is a special post-game difficulty that aims to give players who have already finished the story and want to seek even more daunting challenges. On this difficulty you can spend Anima Crystals to raise the mission level. Doing so will allow you to earn rare and more powerful weapons and armor.

Increase the Level Cap for Jobs to 99

On CHAOS Difficulty, you can clear specific missions to unlock Limit Releases which will raise the level cap of the corresponding Job to 99. Further leveling up gives you Master Points which you can spend to increase your stats.

Get Artifacts

Playing on CHAOS Difficulty allows you to get Artifacts for defeating enemies. Artifacts are essentially the same as other equipment drops, with one key difference: Artifacts have multiple Affinities. Having high Affinity is particularly useful when leveling up your Jobs to 99 as Affinity increases EXP gained.

You can now also spend Job Crests to increase Equipment Affinity. To spend Job Crests at the Smithy, you will need the item Smith's Hammer III which you get from clearing the side mission Indigo Memories: The Stabbed. Unlock this side mission by finding a purple orb in the main mission The Suffering of Fools.

How to Unlock CHAOS Difficulty

Beat the Game on Any Difficulty

Upon beating the last main mission of the game on any difficulty, a cutscene will play followed by a menu that explains that the CHAOS Difficulty will be available on your World Map when you select a mission.

New Game Plus

CHAOS Difficulty is a Pseudo NG+

Once you complete the game, the World Map will allow you to replay all previous missions on any difficulty you wish, so it technically isn't a new game plus. However, as completing the game unlocks both CHAOS difficulty and a new Job, you can experience the whole game again using the new job as well as ones you may have skipped earlier.

Additionally, there are a lot of new features to unlock by playing CHAOS Difficulty, such as raising your Job levels to 99 and boosting your stats by spending Master Points.
