How to Defeat Whacka

  1. Only Use Single Hit Attacks
  2. Use Vivian's Veil to Avoid Red Bump
  3. Use Power Lift to Increase Attack and Defense Powers
  4. Do Not Use Fire Attacks
  5. Bring Life Shrooms

Only Use Single Hit Attacks

Recommended Single Hit Attacks
Power Jump Power Smash
Flurrie's Lip Lock Bobbery's Bob-ombast

Only use single hit attacks against Whacka due to it dropping a Whacka Bump each time it gets hit. It can either attack with the Whacka Bump or recover HP by eating it.

Note that the more hits Whacka takes, the more Whacka Bumps appear for him to use against you.

Bumps Can Drop Even If You Don't Damage Whacka

Do note that Whacka Bumps can still drop even if you don't damage Whacka himself, which can happen if it damages itself or gets hit by stage props.

Use Vivian's Veil to Avoid Red Bump

Whacka Bumps that appear have different effects when used depending on the type, with the red bump being the more powerful one.

You can avoid getting hit by the powerful Whacka Red Bump, thrown by Whacka, by using Vivian's Veil move.

Using Superguard is also Very Effective

You can deflect the Whacka Bumps by using Superguard. This is also effective against Red Whacka Bump attacks.

How to Guard and Superguard

Use Power Lift to Increase Attack and Defense Powers

Paper Mario TTYD Switch Remake - Use Power Lift

You can use the Power Lift special move to increase your attack and defense powers to reduce the damage from Whacka's attacks. Once your attack power is increased, use your single target attacks to deal high amounts of damage.

Goombella's Rally Wink is Very Effective

In conjunction with raising Mario's stats, you can also use Goombella's Rally Wink to force Mario to move twice. This is useful to attack with single hit moves twice in one turn.

Do Not Use Fire Attacks

Paper Mario TTYD Switch Remake - Do Not Use Fire Attacks

Whacka will also produce Whacka Bumps while getting damaged by burned status effect. Avoid using Vivian's fire moves or any items or badges that can apply burned status effect.

Bring Life Shrooms

Paper Mario TTYD Switch Remake - Bring Life Shrooms

It is highly recommended to bring as many Life Shrooms as you can because the battle with Whacka involves a lot of luck, such as multiple red bumps appearing or bumps increasing due to random stage effects.

Whacka Reward

Golden Whacka Bump

Paper Mario TTYD Switch Remake - Golden Whacka Bump

After defeating Whacka, you will get an important item, Golden Whacka Bump. This is a key item and has no in-battle effect.

You can still defeat whacka again if you didn't Tattle on it, and it will drop a normal whacka bump
