Prepare a lot of recovery items, like Life Shroom, to revive knocked out characters, and Jelly Ultra, the best healing item, for the long battle with Bonetail, who has a high HP of 200.

You can use the Power Lift special move to increase your attack and defense powers to reduce the damage from Bonetail's very powerful attacks.
Note that Bonetail cannot be affected by any status effects except being burned, so the basic strategy is to increase your stats and then use powerful attacks.

Madame Flurrie's Lip Lock move is very effective against the Bonetail because the move ignores the enemy defense and allows Flurrie to damage the enemies by stealing their HP and then heals her own.
It's also a good strategy to position Flurrie in front, so she can shield Mario and fight while recovering.

You will get 999 coins once you defeat Bonetail, which is a lot more compared to the chapter bosses in the game.
Combined with the amount of coins you can get while going down the Pit of 100 Trials, you'll be able to get a lot of coins if you're able to clear the dungeon.

You will also get 1 Star Point after defeating Bonetail, even though it is a challenging fight.
How to Level Up Fast and Level Cap

After defeating the boss, a chest will appear in the area which contains the Return Postage badge. This also acts as the last badge reward in the Pit.
