Account Merge Issue: How to Get Your Account Back

Overwatch 2 - How to Get Your Account Back
There are reports of players' accounts getting wiped as they merge their existing accounts to Overwatch 2, likely caused by various issues within Blizzard's servers. Read on to learn why your account got wiped and the methods you can use to get your account back.

How to Get Your Account Back

Account Migration Queue Capacity Ramping Up!

In Blizzard's latest tweet they reported that they are ramping up capacity for the account migration queues. This will hopefully resolve any issues for players who still do not have their Overwatch 1 accounts data, heroes, cosmetics and currency, as well as Watchpoint pack bonuses failing to migrate.

Latest Maintenance Restored Players' Accounts, Missing Heroes and Skins

It appears as though Blizzard has resolved the account merging issue that was causing players to lose their heroes, skins and cosmetics, during their most recent planned maintenance.

Overwatch 2 servers underwent scheduled maintenance starting 8:30 PM PDT on October 7, 2022. The maintenance ended early at 9:00 PM. When players logged back in, many reported that their previously missing heroes, skins and cosmetics had been restored.

Relaunch Your Overwatch & Battle.net

In a forum post released by Blizzard, players who encounter this issue should try restarting both Overwatch 2 and Battle.net to resolve the problem.

Send a Ticket to Blizzard Support

Overwatch 2 - Send a Ticket to Blizzard Support
If your account still has missing items or locked heroes even after relaunching your Battle.net and Overwatch 2, you'll have to open a support ticket to Blizzard's support team. After sending a support ticket, you will have to wait until they reply, which they usually do within 48 hours after sending the ticket.

Due to the large number of players experiencing problems with Overwatch 2, you may have to wait for a longer time before you can hear back from their support team.

Wait For Further Announcements from Blizzard

According to Blizzard, they currently have a client-side fix for this problem but cannot be deployed until next week. They're also still exploring ways to fix this issue from their end and will provide us with updates and more information as it becomes available.

Why Did my Account Get Wiped?

Incorrectly Applied with FTUE

Overwatch 2 - Incorrectly Applied with FTUE
According to Blizzard, players whose accounts have been wiped are likely caused by the First Time User Experience (FTUE) being mistakenly applied to existing players.

This has caused players' accounts to be wiped of their progress from the previous title, but rest assured, as Blizzard mentioned, player data has not been wiped or lost.

First Time User Experience

Due to a UI Bug for Merging Accounts

Players who merged their accounts for Overwatch 2 may find their account stripped away with all their progress from the previous title.

This is due to a bug in the launch build of Overwatch 2, where a merge prompt was not provided to the player. Blizzard has then patched a UI fix for this issue and is still working on fixes for additional UI issues.

Things are Taking Longer to Transfer

Overwatch 2 - Things are Taking Longer to Transfer
Another possible reason why your progress from Overwatch 2 was wiped is likely due to the servers taking longer than usual to transfer your data from the original Overwatch to Overwatch 2.

This is likely due to the recent DDoS attacks on Blizzard's servers and the overwhelming number of players trying to play Overwatch 2.
