Team Explanation

Genji and Sojourn are both have great mobility which is great for flanking. Escort maps usually devolve into battles centering on chokepoints or corridors. In most cases, the balance between two teams breaks because of an ult or a successful flank.

Lucio does a great job escorting or contesting the payload while healing most of the team in small spaces. The same can be said about Moira, whose Biotic Orb ability is maximized when bouncing off the same tight corridors.

When it comes to choosing a Tank, the best close-range tight space fights is arguably Reinhardt. He can push the objective while covering for most of the team. When the enemy team gets near enough, Reinhardt can deal massive damage using his hammer or stun the entire team using his ultimate ability.

Alternative Tanks

• Orisa: Orisa is perfect for pushing the payload at the front with her Fortify ability reducing damage to herself. By facing the enemies upfront she is also in a great position to stop ultimate abilities by hitting them with her Javelin. Finally, by timing her ultimate, Terra Surge, during choke points, she can deal massive damage to multiple enemies at once.
• Sigma: Sigma is a tank that can deploy shields to mitigate damage while still being able to attack. He is also able to absorb damage using Kinetic Grasp. Finally, his Gravity Flux ultimate ability is best used in small chokepoints to ensure that most of the team is hit in the area of effect.
• Zarya: The close firefights of escort mode make it an ideal place for Zarya to mitigate damage. Heroes that can also be a good source of energy when giving them their own shields. Lastly, Graviton Surge is a great ultimate ability when used in tandem with another Hero's ultimate.
• Junker Queen: Whether on Attack or Defense, Junker Queen's Commanding Shout and Ultimate ability make her a great hero for contesting the payload. She is also a great counter for flanking Damage Heroes like Genji and Sojourn. When it comes to her survivability, inflicting wounds using Jagged Blade and melee hits cause her to regenerate her health.

Alternative Damage

• Cassidy: Cassidy is a great pick for mid-range fights. His revolver is also great for sniping flying heroes like Pharah. His Deadeye ultimate can also be maximized in open spaces usually at the playload's final delivery point.
• Pharah: There are a lot of early control points in escort maps that are open-spaced. Take advantage of Pharah's height to hit enemies from above. Just be careful of counter heroes like Widowmaker.
• Reaper: As most battles in Escort Maps turn into close-range fights, Reaper's shotguns are the perfect weapons to use. Wraith Form can be used for hit-and-run tactics while using Death Blossom at close quarters can get players an easy Play of the Game.
• Tracer: Tracer herself has great mobility that allows her to set up hit and run tactics. Use her Pulse Bomb ultimate in chokepoints where enemy teams are most likely bunched up together.

Alternative Supports

• Baptiste: Baptiste is a great pick for long-range healing. He can move the payload while healing far-off allies. His Immortality Field is also great for mitigating fatal damage. Finally, his Amplification Field ultimate is best used during stalemates in chokepoints to deal more damage to the enemy.
• Mercy: Mercy is a solid staple for any type of game mode. Make sure to move around healing all teammates instead of focusing on just the Tank. Flying will be limited, especially in smaller spaces so be wary of that.
• Zenyatta: Zenyatta is a great pick for the defensive team. Players are able to keep healing orbs on allies without having to keep track of them. Keep a safe distance between you and the enemy since Zenyatta has a smaller health pool.

Escort Map Mechanics and Features

Escort the Payload to the Objective

Escort maps in Overwatch 2 feature a payload that attacking teams must stick with to push it through three checkpoints. Defending teams must prevent the opposite team from delivering the payload to its final destination until time runs out.

Spawn Points Shift During the Game

Attacking and defending teams' spawn points shift whenever a payload reaches a checkpoint. Attackers will always spawn next to their latest captured checkpoint, while defenders will always spawn near the back of the next uncaptured checkpoint.

These rules apply to all checkpoints in an Escort map, and neither team can choose where they spawn.

Timer and Point Rules

Every Escort map plays under a 4 minute timer, with the time extending by 2 minutes and 30 seconds each time the payload reaches a checkpoint. Each team gains points whenever they reach a checkpoint with their respective payloads.

Match Formats

Best of 1 in Competitive and Casual Play

Each Escort game is played under a Best of 1 format, with teams switching between attacking and defending once per game.

How to Play and Tips

Focus on Flanking

Most escort maps are head to head engagements with the balance being broken due to a successful flank. Another thing to help with flanking is to know the layout of each map.

Focus on the Payload

Unlike other game modes, the enemy team is pushed back simply by escorting the payload. While eliminating the enemy team is will defnitely help your team, pushing the payloads adds a lot of pressure to the defending team.

In comparison, the defending team does not need to keep contesting the payload unless absolutely necessary. Push the enemy team back into their spawn room to make it hard for them to push the payload.

Always Keep Track of the Payload

Always be aware if they payload is being moved. There have been clips online of Sombra using stealth to get past enemies and pushing the payload into winning. Since everyone is so focused on fighting, it can be too late to stop the payload.
