Eichenwalde Official Description

Eichenwalde is an Assault/Escort hybrid map set in an abandoned village on the outskirts of Stuttgart, Germany.

The site of one of the most famous battles during the Omnic Crisis, it was here that the leader of the Crusaders, Balderich von Adler, and a handful of his best soldiers made a last stand against an advancing automaton army. Outnumbered and outgunned, they were ultimately slain during the resulting combat. However, thanks to their valiant efforts, the German military was able to push back the omnic offensive and win the fight.

On this map, one team must escort a battering ram to Eichenwalde Castle to reclaim Balderich’s remains from their current resting place, while the opposing team does everything in its power to thwart the keep from being breached.

Take Advantage of Pitfalls

Eichenwalde features plenty of pitfalls, located on the sides of the map and along the bridge toward the castle doors. Take advantage of these environmental hazards by using Heroes with pushing abilities like Lúcio, Reinhardt, and Orisa.

Prioritize Mobile Heroes on Attack

Eichenwalde is notable for its numerous tight choke points and great defensive high ground, which attackers may find difficult to push through. To get through them, we recommend using high-mobility characters like Genji and Winston to quickly maneuver through flanking routes and close the gap with crucial enemy targets.

Hanzo Excels at Eichenwalde Defense

When playing defense on Eichenwalde, Hanzo is an incredibly strong pick all teams should consider. One of his greatest assets on the map is his Sonic Arrow, which provides his team with vital information about enemy movement along the map's cramped terrain. His Dragonstrike is also incredibly strong on Eichenwalde, as it covers the map's narrow pathways and can easily take out groups of foes hiding behind the payload.

Alternative Tanks

• D.Va: Eichenwalde's narrow and cramped terrain makes D.Va an excellent alternative Tank. Her Defense Matrix efficiently covers her team from projectiles, and she can quickly dispatch crucial targets up close with her Fusion Cannons and Micro Missiles. Her Boosters are also great for disrupting enemy positioning and shoving foes into the map's environmental hazards. Self Destruct is also potent when positioned properly along Eichenwalde's tight corridors.
• Orisa: Orisa's well-balanced kit makes her a great alternative Tank for both teams on Eichenwalde. Fortify and Javelin Spin allow her to efficiently absorb damage, with the latter also capable of blocking projectiles and disrupting enemy positioning. Her Energy Javelin and Terra Surge are strong crowd control skills, especially when used around the map's objectives and choke points.
• Sigma: Like Reinhardt, Sigma excels at covering Eichenwalde's narrow pathways with his Experimental Barrier and Kinetic Grasp. He also has potent crowd-control abilities in Accretion and Gravitic Flux, with the latter being significantly effective when used from the map's high ground and along its choke points.
• Wrecking Ball: Wrecking Ball is another potent alternative Tank for both teams. He takes full advantage of Eichenwalde's terrain with Roll, Grappling Hook, and Piledriver to quickly and efficiently disrupt the opposing team's positioning and eliminate backline targets. His Minefield is also an excellent area denial tool, covering objectives and choke points with high-damage explosives.
• Zarya: Zarya is an excellent pick for both attacking and defending teams. She absorbs heavy firepower with Particle and Projected Barrier and turns the stored damage around on her foes with Particle Cannon, tearing through groups of enemies with ease. Graviton Surge is also extremely effective for disrupting grouped-up teams around Eichenwalde's objectives and tight corridors.

Alternative Damage

• Hanzo: Hanzo is an excellent marksman for defending teams in Eichenwalde. Setting up on the map's numerous vantage points, he can land lethal charged headshots with his Storm Bow and provide information about enemy positioning with Sonic Arrow. His Dragonstrike ultimate is also capable of taking down entire enemy teams when used along the map's choke points and narrow pathways.
• Reaper and Sombra: These heroes are great alternative flankers on Eichenwalde. Reaper can reach vantage points and flanking routes with Shadow Step before dealing massive damage up close with his Hellfire Shotguns and Death Blossom. Sombra maneuvers the map unseen with Stealth and Translocator and takes on a more disruptive role with her Hack and EMP.
• Soldier: 76: Soldier: 76 is a well-rounded Damage pick for attacking and defending teams, sporting potent hitscan with Heavy Pulse Rifle and excellent burst damage with Helix Rockets. He can also quickly reposition and maneuver around Eichenwalde with Sprint, letting him flank from multiple angles and set up devastating Tactical Visor plays from the map's high ground.

Alternative Supports

• Brigitte: Brigitte is an excellent alternative support for either team. She offers great defensive capability against diving teams with Shield Bash and Whip Shot and can reliably support her frontline with Rocket Flail and Inspire. Rally is also useful for attacking and defending objectives, allowing her to move around faster while providing temporary health to her allies.
• Mercy: Mercy can easily follow her mobile teammates around using Guardian Angel and provide constant streams of healing and damage boosts with Caduceus Staff. Her mobility and utility are further enhanced when she uses Valkyrie, especially since she can take advantage of Eichenwalde's ample cover and verticality. Mercy also provides her team with Resurrect, which has the potential to break stalemates and turn teamfights around.
• Kiriko: Kiriko can quickly slip through Eichenwalde's cramped terrain with Swift Step to escape danger and reach teammates in need. Protection Suzu and Kitsune Rush are also significantly effective when used along the map's narrow streets and choke points. Kiriko's Ofuda and Kunai also pair well with the map's vantage points, letting her efficiently support her team with healing and damage from afar.
