Lunar New Year Overview

Annual Seasonal Event

The Lunar New Year Event is held every year from late January to mid February.. When it was first introduced in 2017 the Capture the Rooster Game Mode was also introduced.

Since then, it has been renamed to Capture The Flag. Following Seasons introduced Competitive Capture the Flag, Capture The Flag Blitz and Bounty Hunter game modes.

During the Lunar New Year Event there are also a large range of Lunar New Year themed skins, as well as other cosmetics such as sprays, icons, emotes and intros available through weekly challenges, loot boxes and purchases.

Year of the Tiger (2022)

The 2022 Lunar New Year Event: Year of the Tiger, commenced on January 25 and concluded on February 15.

Previous Years

• 2021: The 2021 Lunar New Year Event: Year of the Ox went from February 4 until February 25. A new brawl mode called Bounty Hunter was introduced.
• 2020: The 2020 Lunar New Year Event: Year of the Rat went from January 16 until February 5. It introduced a new game mode, Capture the Flag Blitz. This event also introduced weekly challenges as a way to earn Lunar New Year themed cosmetics.
• 2019: The 2019 Lunar New Year Event: Year of the Pig went from January 24 until February 18.
• 2018: The 2018 Lunar New Year Event: Year of the Dog went from February 8 until March 5. This event renamed the Capture The Rooster game mode to Capture The Flag. This event also introduced a new Competitive Capture the Flag in which players are ranked based on wins and skill. Finally, a new Capture the Flag map, Ayutthaya was introduced.
• 2017: The original Lunar New Year Event: Year of the Rooster went from January 24 until February 13, 2017. This event introduced many of the current mainstays of subsequent Lunar New Year Events, including the Capture the Rooster Mode (later renamed Capture the Flag). It also featured Lunar New Year themed skins and cosmetics, as well as Lunar New Year themed loot boxes.

Lunar New Year Brawls

There are a total of 3 different types of brawls featured in Lunar New Year Events. These are the Capture the Flag brawl, Capture the Flag Blitz brawl and the Bounty Hunter brawl.

Capture the Flag

Overview

In Capture the Flag (CTF), players team up to take the opposing team's flag while defending their own. When capturing the opposing team's flag it takes 2.5 seconds to collect. If you are damaged during this period the timer resets.

If a player is killed while holding the flag, it is dropped and a player from either team may immediately collect it from the location it was dropped. Finally, certain abilities used during this brawl cause the player to immediately drop the flag.

Win Condition

Capture the opposing teams flag and securely bring it to your base 3 times. Alternatively, capture the opposing team's flag more times than your flag is captured within the time limit.

Capture the Flag Blitz

Overview

The primary difference between Capture the Flag (CTF) and Capture the Flag Blitz (CTF Blitz) is that the flags are placed much closer together. This makes it faster paced and more chaotic in comparison to the traditional CTF brawl.

Win Condition

Capture the opposing team's flag and securely bring it back to your base 6 times Alternatively, capture the opposing team's flag more times than your flag is captured within the time limit.

Bounty Hunter

Overview

Bounty Hunter is a free-for-all brawl which is funtionally similar to a game of tag... but with guns. The first player to get a kill becomes the 'Bounty', with the rest becoming 'Bounty Hunters'. From there, every time the Bounty is killed, the Bounty Hunter who scored the kill becomes the new 'Bounty'.

Becoming the Bounty fully heals you and grants you a free ultimate. The Bounty is also surrounded in a glowing orange aura and is visible through walls.

Win Condition

Earn 4000 Points. Alternatively, earn the most points within the time limit.

Play Games from a Variety of Modes to Unlock Regal Lunar New Year Themed Bonuses

You can play games in Quick Play, Match Play or the Arcade in order to unlock exclusive Lunar New Year skins and cosmetics. Each win counts as 2 games towards the reward unlock.

Lunar New Year Loot Boxes

Every week of the Lunar New Year Event you have the opportunity to earn 3 loot boxes. You earn a loot box by winning 3 games in the Arcade. The loot boxes are filled with various Lunar New Year cosmetics such as sprays, skins and icons. Additionally, during the Lunar New Year Event, the loot boxes take on a red and gold coloration.
