How to Play and Tips

Excels at Narrow Maps with Flanking Routes

Bastion's reworked kit in Overwatch 2 shines in maps with tight corridors and numerous flanking routes. We suggest playing the robot in Push maps like Esperança and New Queen Street.

Bounce A-36 Tactical Grenade Off Walls

A-36 Tactical Grenade continuously bounces around walls until it latches onto an enemy or hits the ground. Take advantage of this unique characteristic by bouncing the grenade around blind spots and corners to take foes by surprise.

Boost Jump Height with A-36 Tactical Grenade

Similar to Soldier: 76's Helix Rocket jumps, Bastion can boost its jump height by placing its A-36 Tactical Grenade on the ground and timing its jump with the grenade's explosion. This can be useful for accessing places, shortcuts, and flanking routes that Bastion normally can't reach.

Configuration Assault Tips

Flank Foes With Configuration: Assault

Configuration: Assault works best when flanking enemies and gunning them down from unexpected angles. Position and transform near enemy blind spots or high ground to make the most out of Configuration: Assault's high-damage form.

Configuration: Assault Can Be Canceled

If you find yourself taking heavy firepower while transformed and need to retreat, you can exit Configuration: Assault early by pressing its ability button a second time. Use this tip to disengage from combat faster and keep yourself alive.

Configuration: Assault Can't Land Critical Hits

Unlike Bastion's Recon mode, Configuration: Assault cannot land critical hits, meaning that headshots are completely inefficient in that form. Prioritize aiming for enemies' center of mass and landing body shots to maximize Configuration: Assault's damage.

Use Configuration: Artillery Behind Cover

Bastion does not need a direct line of sight for it to fire Configuration: Artillery on crucial enemy targets and locations. Keep yourself safe by hiding behind natural cover before activating Bastion's ultimate.

Contest Objectives with Configuration: Artillery

Because Configuration: Artillery has a short delay before it launches each shell, you can preemptively fire this ability on your enemies as covering fire while your allies contest objectives. We recommend coordinating this strategy with your teammates by using voice communication or the in-game Countdown ping.

How to Counter

Deflect His Attacks or Mitigate

Bastion is one of the best heroes in terms of damage output. His Assault Configuration ability can take down multiple enemy heroes quite easily. One way to send all of his attacks back is to use Genji's Deflect ability. Zarya can also farm energy by using her shields either on her or her allies.

Finally, when it comes to countering Bastion's ultimate, Zenyatta and Lucio's ultimates can give healing buffs that can mitigate most of the damage.

Bastion Story

Creation

Bastion Story 1 Overwatch 2
The Bastions were originally created for peace keeping purposes. They also, however, possess the ability to rapidly reconfigure themselves into an assault cannon mode when danger is present. This function was abused during the Omnic Crisis, where they were turned against humans.

Omnic Crisis

Bastion Omnic Crisis Overwatch 2
During the Omnic Crisis, instead of protecting humanity, the Bastions were turned against them and became the bulk of the omnics' rebel army. After the conclusion of the battle, all of the Bastions were destroyed or disassembled, except for one, which would lay deactivated for years unnoticed.

Return to Peace

On a faithful day a curious bird pecked at this Bastion's face and body, awakening it from its long period of deactivation. It was reactivated with most of its combat functions gone. Now, it explores the world to learn more about it, preferring forest areas away from humans.

But be warned, when in danger, Bastion will return to its combat programming and eliminate any threat.
