Watchpoint: Gibraltar Tips and Strategies

Use All Initial Attack Spawn Doors

When playing on offense in Gibraltar, remember that there are three spawn doors you can exit from depending on your role and the enemy team's composition.

For example, instead of every team member exiting through the main spawn door, it is better for snipers to start their offense from the top spawn door and for flankers to slip past their foes through the cliffside spawn door.

Play Around the Map's Open Areas

Watchpoint: Gibraltar features wide open spaces and high vantage points in all of its sections, meaning teams should always build their team compositions around these terrain characteristics.

Attacking teams should prioritize mobile Heroes that can quickly maneuver past sightlines and open areas, like Genji and Winston . On the other hand, defending teams should prioritize Heroes that can take advantage of the map's vantage points and long sightlines, like Ashe and Ana.

Utilize the Top of the Space Shuttle

In the second section of Gibraltar, most Heroes can reach the top of the space shuttle in the middle of the area and use it as a vantage point for attacking and defending the second checkpoint. This unique high ground is particularly effective when paired with Heroes with high vertical mobility, like Pharah and Echo, and Heroes with strong hitscan, like Soldier: 76 and Widowmaker.

Best Watchpoint: Gibraltar Attack Team

Best Tank
Overwatch 2 - Winston
Best DPS
Overwatch 2 - Genji Overwatch 2 - Sojourn
Best Supports
Overwatch 2 - Ana Overwatch 2 - Mercy

Team Explanation

This team composition focuses on dealing with foes that make use of Watchpoint: Gibraltar's long sightlines and numerous vantage points by having Heroes with high mobility and flanking potential.

  • Winston swiftly closes the gap with key enemy targets on Gibraltar's high vantage points with Jump Pack, quickly wearing them down with Tesla Cannon. Barrier Projector is also a great defensive tool, providing cover through sniper sightlines and acting as a space control tool when securing the payload. Primal Rage vastly enhances Winston's mobility and disruption on the map with a reduced Jump Pack cooldown and high melee knockback.
  • Genji can swiftly maneuver through Gibraltar's flanking routes and reach vantage points with Cyber-Agility and Swift Strike to dispatch snipers and other crucial enemy targets. Deflect also lets him safely close the gap in open sniper sightlines. When engaging in team fights around the payload and along the map's choke points, Genji can quickly tear through multiple enemies with Dragonblade and Swift Strike.
  • Sojourn is capable of dueling both close-range fighters and enemy snipers with her Railgun, especially when empowered by her Overclock ultimate. Her Disruptor Shot is also excellent for area denial and pushing through choke points with its high-damage area of effect. She also has a potent mobility tool in Power Slide, capable of crossing sightlines and reaching vantage points in one use.
  • Ana provides excellent single-target healing and supportive fire with her Biotic Rifle, especially with Gibraltar's long sightlines and high vantage points. Ana also has strong supportive tools in Biotic Grenade and Sleep Dart, both significantly useful in team fights around the payload. Nano Boost also pairs well with Genji and Sojourn, providing them with increased damage output and survivability.
  • Mercy can easily follow her mobile teammates around using Guardian Angel and provide constant streams of healing and damage boosts with Caduceus Staff. Her mobility and utility are further enhanced when she uses Valkyrie, especially since she can take advantage of Gibraltar's ample verticality. Mercy also provides her team with Resurrect, which has the potential to break stalemates and turn teamfights around.
