Overwatch 2 - First Time User Experience

The First Time User Experience is a gameplay mechanic introduced in Overwatch 2 to better prepare a player to the different game modes Overwatch 2 has to offer. Read on to learn more about the FTUE, its limitations, how to bypass it, and more!

What is First Time User Experience (FTUE)?

Introductory Gameplay Mechanic

Overwatch 2 developers have stated that the First Time User Experience (FTUE) is a way for new players to have ample time to adjust to the gameplay of Overwatch 2 and not be overwhelmed by all the different types of game modes when they join the fray.

Game Mode Limitations

New players will not be able to play all existing game modes at launch, but instead will have to play a certain number of matches to unlock the other game modes. This ensures that players will have ample time to adjust to a game mode before trying on another.

This limit can be temporarily lifted when playing in a group such as your friends, but will stay in effect until you have reached the required number of matches played.

New Player Restrictions

Competitive Unlocks after 50 Quick Play Wins

Unlocking Competitve will require a new player to win 50 Quick Plays instead of only playing a number of matches, to ensure that a new player will be better prepared for the expectations of playing competitively with other players.

Old Heroes must be Unlocked

New players are only given access to a limited roster with more straight-forward-to use heroes that will allow them to get a hang of the gameplay before diving into matches with a hero that requires a more experienced user.

How to Bypass FTUE

Buy the Watchpoint Pack before launch date

For the price of $40, you can bypass the FTUE mechanic by purchasing the Watchpoint Pack which includes a Legendary Edition of the original Overwatch and transfering the data into Overwatch 2. This will allow you to be considered as an existing player rather than a first time user.
