Overwatch 2 - Characters Locked Bug- How to Fix
Several players are reporting that roughly half of their characters have been locked the last time they were able to re-enter the game. Read on to find out more about this problem and how to unlock your heroes again!

After waiting for lengthy periods of time in fluctuating queues of up to 40,000 people, some users who finally gained access found almost half of their heroes locked. These are all heroes that were previously unlocked and usable.

Blizzard have a Bug Report and Official Twitter where they have been keeping players updated with known issues and resolutions. In their latest update they explained this bug is due to the new First Time User Experience (FTUE) being incorrectly applied to returning players.

How to Fix

This issue should be rectified through the stock standard practice of logging out and back in again according to Blizzard. That would however put you at risk of being unable to re-enter due to the unstable servers. Still, if there is a certain hero that is your specialty and would prefer to play as, it may be worth the risk. If so and you encounter any difficulties recconnecting, try the following steps:

  • First try the classic power off, power on, reset on your PC/console
  • Next ascertain that it is not a local network related issue by disconnecting and reconnecting your modem at the power source
  • You should then try disconnecting and reconnecting your battle.net account to your console if you are a console player
  • If all of the above steps failed its probably safe to assume its a server side issue, in which case you will have to try your luck in the queue as many times as it takes to get in
