Potential players looking to get into Overwatch 2 may find themselves in luck, as Blizzard has announced the game can be played for free. Read on to find out if Overwatch 2 is free-to-play and if cash is required to unlock heroes and cosmetics in the game!

Is Overwatch 2 Free-To-Play?
Overwatch 2 is Free-To-Play
Newcomers and old players alike can play Overwatch 2 without spending any cash. You can download the game through Battle.net launcher for free, and if you're an existing player, all the cosmetics you obtained from the previous game will carry over.
Unlock Heroes Through Challenges
Unlocking heroes in Overwatch 2 can be obtained by simply playing through the game. The game does not require you to spend real money to get heroes, but you can unlock certain characters faster if available.
A character like Kiriko can be obtained naturally, but you can unlock her instantly by purchasing the battle pass. Additionally, buying the Watchpoint Pack will automatically unlock all the characters for you.
Earn Cosmetic Items From the Battlepass!
Free-to-play players can also obtain cosmetic items by progressing through their battle passes. Although you will be limited to what you can get from the battle pass unless you spend real money to get the premium battle pass.

Overwatch 1 Player Benefits
If you own a copy of the previous Overwatch game, you retain all the progress, cosmetic items, and skins obtained from playing the original game. You will also automatically unlock all the characters available in Overwatch 2.
Competitive mode also unlocks by default but only if you put a ton of hours into participating in competitive matches.
