Bronze 5 Bug is Reportedly Fixed!

According to Blizzards most recent developer blog this has now been patched. For players who were affected by the Bronze 5 bug, Blizzard have added a patch to allow faster progress of division and tier for affected players. If this issue still continues to affect you, take a ticket with Blizzard Support, explaining your issue.

How Rank Progression Should Work

In Overwatch 2's revamped competitive system, players' rankings improve after a set amount of games, rather than every game. A player's division and tier is adjusted as necessary every 7 wins or 20 losses. The more frequent a player's wins, the faster they will progress through the divisions and tiers.

Winning 7 Games in a Row Still Fails to Improve Tier or Division

Unfortunately for some players it would appear no matter how good their win percentage is, they are failing to rank up. There are accounts of players winning 7 games in a row in a group with friends and one of them being left behind on Bronze 5 while the others progress to Platinum, putting them out of reach for future group competitive games.

Other Tiers Mostly Unaffected

At this stage it appears this issue primarily affects people on Bronze 5 (the lowest tier and division). Players who have managed to progress past Bronze 5 appear to continue to have no issues progressing through the other divisions and tiers.

What Causes the Rank Up Progression Error?

Player Progression Tracking Server Malfunction

In a recent bug update by Blizzard, addressing a separate issue of heroes being locked for some players, they stated it is related to a known issue with one of their servers which tracks player progression.

Considering the problem of Blizzard's server failing to track player progression in some cases, coupled with the fact that this is almost exclusively affecting the lowest tier and division, it is highly likely that a failure of this server is also the cause of the unable to progress from Bronze 5 bug.
