| How to Get Masteries |

Upon starting a new game, you have the option to pick which mastery best fits your character. Pick carefully though, as these starting choices can shape your combat style and strategy later on.

You can get masteries from NPCs via Path Actions either by entreating, purchasing or contending for them.

Masteries can be hidden throughout Orsterra in regular chests or blue chests with an Elite Enemy as a guard, so make sure you unlock and upgrade your Church in Wishvale to unlock blue chests as early as possible!

Some Masteries can be obtained by successfully using the Steal action on foes, so it's a good habit to steal from enemies first before trying to kill them off.

Once a character masters all of their own skills, JP can be spent to unlock additional Masteries. This is ideal for customizing a fully-leveled character.

Upon gaining access to certain Trade Lists, Ludo's Shop will eventually sell Masteries through the Trade Lists in Wishvale These require high amounts of Leaves so make sure you come prepared!
In Octopath Traveler 0, a Mastery acts like a license that allows a character to use a specific Action Skill or gain a passive effect, even if their current job wouldn’t normally allow it.

Open the menu, scroll down to the Skills option, and select Equip Skills. This will display your companions’ currently equipped Masteries, separated into Action Skills, Battle Masteries, and Support Skills.
Characters do not start with all Mastery slots unlocked. Each character begins with a single Battle Mastery slot . Additional slots can be unlocked by spending JP which are earned through combat or by training at the Wishvale Training Ground. At maximum, a character can equip three Battle Masteries and two Support Masteries.
