This team has one of the most balanced party compositions for most of the game. This should cover all weapon weakness types with minimum overlap. If you wish to cover all elemental magic weaknesses, you will need to have at least two Scholars who can perform different sets of elemental magic. If you are still early into the game and a second scholar is not available to you, you can replace the slot with an Architect who can provide extra healing support. You can also equip people with Action Skills to make up for missing weaknesses.

In a magic-based composition, you will ideally want to be able to cover all elemental magic weaknesses, at the sacrifice of physical weapons. Having at least two Scholars will help you cover more than half the elemental magic available. However, elemental magic users have low defenses so you should have Warriors or Hunters to act as tanks. You should also aim for Warriors and Hunters who have the Provoke Skill, like Viator or Phenn, who can potentially draw the attention of enemies for 3 turns.
For your supporting jobs, some Thieves also have the ability to use dark magic, so you can have them lined up on the back row as back-up. You should also have Apothecaries and Clerics for healing. Clerics have the ability to use light magic, so you want them with the front row to be able to attack and heal as necessary. Dancers offer party support and can boost Elemental attacks, and some can even use magic of their own.

A lot of late game unique job classes have weapon overlaps with regular job classes, but they do have more powerful skills that can offer more support to the party, and deal greater damage towards enemies. If a unique job class is not available to you, you can replace them with other similar counterparts.

Merchants carry skills that can add bonuses to the rewards and experience won from every battle. Merchant skills like Arrow of Fortune can farm JP out of an enemy based on the damage dealt. Merchants also have a passive known as Extra Leaves, which increases the leaves earned at the end of battle, although this effect isn't cumulative, so even if you have two Merchants on the same party, you will still get the same amount of bonus leaves.
Aside from Merchants, Hunters and Dancers also carry their own passive skills that can help with farming. Hunter's Extra Experience passive will earn you more EXP at the end of battle. A Dancer's Extra JP can also incrase the amount of JP you earn.
Ophilia also has Extra JP as a passive skill despite not being a dancer, so use her to fill the Cleric spot if you have her.

The bow, sword, and axe are the most common enemy weaknesses. Even if you may not have the right elemental weaknesses in your party, enemies will always be weak to at least one of these three weapons. Make sure not to neglect them in your parties.

Status effects like Bleeding causes enemies to lose an amount of HP at the end of their turn. Inflicting Bleeding on enemies can cause extra damage and end the battle faster.

Action Skills can be equipped to your party members to get them to use special attacks and skills that they may not learn from their Battle Skills. You can also use them to teach party members elemental attacks and expand your weakness variety.

You should aim to have at least two characters who can heal at your party at all times. Keep one in the front row, and keep one in the back row so that you can easily switch them in and out when needed.

Although there are many types of elemental magic, Scholars can only use specific elementals in their base moveset. For instance, Alexia has only include Lightning and Dark elemental skills listed in her Battle Skills, while Xerc only has Ice and Wind elemental skills. If you want to cover a wider range of elemental weaknesses, you should have two scholars in your party at all times.
