Most Choices Lead to Similar Story Outcomes
Most dialogue choices in Octopath Traveler 0 exist to add flavor or provide alternate lines of dialogue. Regardless of which option you select, the overall plot, character recruitment, and story progression remain unchanged.
This applies to the vast majority of the game, including main quests, character stories, and side interactions.
Celsus' Recruitment
When asked “Is faith important to you?” and “Why do you want to hire Celsus”, feel free to select any choice.
Choosing one over the other will not lock you out from recruiting him as he will join your party regardless of what you answer.

Lying to Rinyuu
You may choose to promise to keep Velnorte's secret in the Master of Power questline. Later on, you will be given the choice to lie to Rinyuu or tell her the truth. The outcome will be the same no matter your choice, as you will ultimately end up telling the truth regardless.

Should You Seal Away the Three Rings?
When asked the question, “Seal away the three rings?”, feel free to select any choice.
Choosing one or the other will not lock you out from recruiting Sazantos as he will join you regardless of what you answer.
Able to Immediately Redo Wrong Choices
Some dialogue choices are mandatory to choose for story progression. If you choose the option that does not progress the story, the game will give you the chance to correct it. This is typically done through asking you the same question, or asking you if you are sure of your choice.
Saoirse's Recruitment
- Lightly as a kingfisher
- Gaily as a baleful bloom
- Fiercely as a fungold
During Saoirse's recruitment, you will be prompted on how to perform, choose the options above in order. If performed correctly, Saoirse will join your party. Otherwise, you can try again and perform the same moves in case you missed a step.

One Late-Game Choice Can Lead to the Bad Ending
During The Bestower of All chapter, when speaking to Sazantos in Wishvale, you are given the option to remain in his Utopia. Choosing Yes, then confirming the decision a second time, will immediately trigger the Bad Ending.
This is the only dialogue choice in the game that directly alters the ending, making it the sole instance where your answer has irreversible narrative consequences.

View Previous Scenes in Journal
You may view previous scenes in the Journal, which can be accessed from the Menu. It will give you the chance to choose amongst the dialogue options you were previously given.
It is possible to choose a different dialogue option than you did previously in order to see how differently the scene would play out. Keep in mind that this only applies to Main Story Scenes and Party Chats.
