You will first choose a physique for your character. This will affect their outfits and their available motions.

Most customization options are available to both physiques.

There are two available face shapes for each physique. They differ in the size of the eyes.

The motion will determine the pose your character will make when initiating Path Actions. You may choose from three options that are exclusive to the physique you chose.

Voice

Voice Selection
You are given six voice options in total, with three masculine voices and three feminine voices. You may play samples of each voice before you choose.

You can choose any voice regardless of your character's physique.

Learned Skill

Skill Description
Twin Shot MasteryTwin Shot Mastery Select a weapon and deal damage to a foe two time(s).
Healing Prayer MasteryHealing Prayer Mastery Grant HP recovery to an ally and restore SP by 10%.
Weaken Foundation MasteryWeaken Foundation Mastery Lower Phys. Atk. and Phys. Def. of a foe for 2 turn(s).

You may choose a skill that will help you in battle. Your character will keep this skill regardless of the Job you choose for them.

Once you choose a favorite dish, you will be prompted to name it. You will receive your chosen favorite dish at the start of the game.

Crested Key Crested Key A key engraved with the crest of a dagger.
Letter Fragment Letter Fragment A fragment of a letter. Its content cannot be deciphered.
RatatouilleRatatouille Grants the following effects for 15 turns:
· Elem. Def. +20%
· Phys. Def. +15%
· Fire/Ice/Lightning/Wind Resistance +15%
Nourishing Nut (M)Nourishing Nut (M) Greatly increases maximum HP.
Embershroom BedEmbershroom Bed A mushroom that can be maintained to yield a harvest of mushrooms at a later date.

The belongings you choose determine which items you start the game with. This allows you to use their benefits earlier without having to find them while playing.

You can obtain the belongings you did not choose as you play through the game. This means that you will eventually be able to receive the benefits of each item eventually.

After you are done with customization, you can then set a name for your character, who will be the protagonist of the story of Octopath 0.

How to Change the Protagonist's Appearance

Change Appearance via the Salon

Octopath Traveler 0 - Character Change Appearance

You can only change your Protagonist's features by unlocking the Salon at the beginning of Chapter 3 of the Kindlers of Flame Story.

Do note that also need to invite an NPC that can change certain aspects of your character, like your Favorite Dish or Name, but hair can always be changed at the Salon.
