Get either Twin Shot Mastery or Weaken Foundation Mastery as your starting learned skill.
With Twin Shot Mastery, you can strike opponents twice in one turn, allowing you to deal more damage and break shields quicker.
Weaken Foundation Mastery debuffs enemies by lowering their Atk and Def stats. This makes them not only easier to defeat, but it makes their attacks hit for less damage, prolonging your party's survivability in battle.
Choose Healing Prayer Mastery for SP Recovery

Unlike regular healing actions, Healing Prayer Mastery can recover 10% of SP. This is beneficial during the early game for units with spellcasting jobs like Scholars or Clerics, who use up a lot of SP.

You will be able to unlock more battle skills for the protagonist or party members by spending JP. JP can be collected by winning battles.
Equip Action Skills
Unlike Battle Skills, Action Skills can be equipped by any character and is not limited to specific jobs. They are usually indicated by a green weapon icon.
These skills can be used to make up for missing type advantages and dealing heavier attacks.
