The True Ending requires you to defeat the boss at The Flamebearer's Shrine in Octopath Traveler 0 (Octopath 0). Read on to learn how to unlock the true ending, how many endings there are, and how to get all endings.

How to Unlock The True Ending

Defeat Bestower of All
You must follow the main storyline and defeat the Bestower of All. This will lead you to the first ending of the game.
Interact With The Strange Monument At The Garden of Sin
Afterwards, return to The Garden of Sin located at the heavens. There will be a new monument that you can interact with that will take you back to the moment after the battle with Orsazantos.
However, instead of touching the light, which would've led you to fighting the Bestower of All in the first ending, travel to the Flamebearer's Shrine.
Defeat Aelfric at The Flamebearer's Shrine
Head into the The Flamebearer's Shrine: Sanctum and interact with the flame pit and accept the trial. This will lead you to battling Aelfric the Flamebringer.
Once you have defeated Aelfric, you will be able to use the Illuminate Path Action.
Illuminate Sazantos' Family With The Ring
After getting the Illuminate Path Action, you may now touch the light at the top of the stairs. This time, you will be able to illuminate the members of Sazantos' family. Start by illuminating the baby, then Pharamea, then Sazantos himself. This will make Sazantos a permanent member of your party.
Sazantos Character Profile and How to Recruit
Defeat Or'galdera
When you reawaken, a cutscene will play out. When you are ready, interact with the light to fight Or'galdera. Keep in mind that the battle with Or'galdera is a Joint Battle, where all party members, including those in your bench, will participate. Make sure that your companions are leveled up and have the correct equipment before engaging.
How Many Endings Are There?
There Are 2 Possible Endings
There are 2 possible endings for Octopath Traveler 0 and it is possible to get both in one save file.
Normal Ending
After defeating Orsazantos, if you touch the light in front of you, you will be transported to a snowy cabin where in the inside is Sazantos and his family. If you haven't done Aelfric's Trial, the only Path Action available to you is to inquire. Afterwards, if you leave the cabin, Sazantos will follow you out, and you will have to fight The Bestower of All. Defeating the Bestower of All will lead to the normal ending of Octopath Traveler 0.
True Ending
If you completed Aelfric's Trial, when you reach the snowy cabin, you will have the option to illuminate as a Path Action towards Sazantos and his family. This will, in a sense, purify Sazantos. When you exit the sequence, instead of the Bestower of All, you will be fighting Or'galdera in a joint battle where all your companions get to join in, in one final fight. Defeating Or'galdera will lead to the true ending of Octopath Traveler 0.
No Bad Endings
There are no bad endings in Octopath Traveler 0. Both of them will have their own solid conclusions on the narrative. However, it is only in the true ending that you will get to experience fighting Or'galdera, who is a much more difficult final boss.
How to Get All Endings
Use the Strange Monument After the First Ending
It is possible to get both endings in one gameplay by using the strange monument at the Garden of Sin after the first ending to go back to the moment after you defeated Orsazantos. This will give you the chance to go to the Flamebearer's Shrine and battle Aelfric to get the illuminate Path Action needed for the true ending.
