NPC Who Exploits Weaknesses
NPCs who exploit enemy weaknesses are useful in Breaking opponent shields faster without having to spend your BP. These include the Stern Scarlet Wing in Emberglow who exploits weakness to Dark, and Soldier Guarding Entrance in Theatropolis who exploits weakness to Daggers.

NPCs Who Restore HP or SP

NPC Who Heals
NPCs who can heal your party can get you out of a tight spot in battle. Traveler from Theatropolis in Emberglow is a good option, as he can restore SP. This will be useful in early-game boss battles, since players will tend to use more Battle Skills.

Grounded Aristocrat in Theatropolis is also a great option, as he can heal the HP of the entire front or back row. This is a great hire for enemies that use a lot of spread attacks.
