A playable demo for Donkey Kong Bananza has been added to the Nintendo eShop following the September 12th, 2025 Nintendo Direct. Read on to learn more about the scope of the demo, and its differences from the full game.

Donkey Kong Bananza Demo on the eShop

After about 8 weeks since the release of Donkey Kong Bananza, a free downloadable demo has been made available on the Nintendo eShop.

The demo appears to have the same scope as the one used during the Nintendo Treehouse Live presentation and the in-store demos that were available around the game's launch.

What Can You Do in the Demo?

Limited Play in Ingot Isle and Lagoon Layer

DKB - Demo Scope

The demo gives players two main sections to play around in and explore. From the moment you select New Game, you will have 30 minutes to play through the demo. The first section features only DK, while the second section will feature DK and Pauline, and will also offer the chance to try out co-op mode.

Ingot Isle Demo

DKB - Ingot Isle Demo
The first section of the demo is the exact same as the opening of the base game. From the cold open of DK smashing into the Ingot Isle mines, all the way up to when he first finds the large pile of Banandium Gems. There are a total of 3 Banandium Gems to collect in this area.

In the base game, collecting the large pile of Banandium Gems triggers the storm that moves the story into the subterranean layers of the world, and you get to continue exploring the Ingot Isle Cave-In. However, in the demo, you'll be cut into the next section of the demo right after the cutscene.

Lagoon Layer Demo

DKB - Lagoon Layer Demo
The second section of the demo takes place on Lagoon Layer's SL 100, the first main level after the tutorial. Here, you get a larger stage to explore and interact with the environment. You’ll find about 23 Banandium Gems and 43 Fossils to collect, giving you a stronger taste of the game’s full collecting experience.

Keep in mind that, even if you haven’t hit 30 minutes of play, any attempt to move into deeper sublayers will end the demo.
