You lose a portion of your Gold and return to a checkpoint if you die in Donkey Kong Bananza. Find out the death penalties in Normal Mode and Assist Mode, as well as ways to avoid a game over here!

Penalty for Dying
Lose 10 Percent of Your Gold and Return to a Checkpoint
On Normal difficulty, Donkey Kong will lose 10% of his gold, capped at 500 when his health is depleted and respawn at the last checkpoint.
Dying in the game can occur in multiple ways, such as falling off a cliff or taking damage from enemies and bosses, or from harmful terrain.
Lose 100 Gold When Dying on Assist Mode
Players will lose 100 Gold upon dying when playing on Assist Mode. If you're not good with 3D platformers, consider switching to this difficulty setting in order to lessen the consequences of dying in-game.

The Red Balloon is an item you should have when exploring as it prevents fall damage, and is useful when you need to explore tall structures in the layer.
Apple Juice is another handy item stock up on as it restores all health when Donkey Kong's health reaches zero.
