The best location to farm Thorn Terrain is in the Forest Layer in Donkey Kong Bananza. Find out where to find thorn terrain, how to break it fast, and how to complete Smashintone’s challenges.
List of Contents

While thorn terrain exists in several layers, the Forest Layer has the most concentrated patch. Head to SL 600, near the Warp Gong, and you’ll find a dense thicket of thorns ready to be cleared.
Once you’ve destroyed all the thorns in the area, reset the terrain and do it again. This loop is the fastest way to grind thorn destruction progress.

Transform into Kong Bananza and use a Charge Punch from a short distance.
Touching thorns directly will cause knockback or damage, so attacking from range is the safest and fastest method.
| Skill | Description | Skill Points Required |
|---|---|---|
| Boosts the range of destruction when you do a Charge Punch by holding Y during Kong Bananza transformations. | 1 | |

Upgrade your Charge Punch skill in the Skill Tree to boost both range and efficiency.
Unlock Elephant Bananza first at the Tempest Layer (SL 900), then go back here. Use its suction ability to clear thorns without taking damage or getting knocked back.
Depending on your skill level, this can be even faster than the charge punch, making it ideal for late-game players.
How to Unlock and Use Elephant Bananza Form

Thorns don’t respawn automatically. Once you’ve cleared the area, open the map with the minus (-) button, then press the plus(+) button to reset the terrain. This lets you keep farming the same patch over and over.

Smashintone’s thorn-breaking challenge appears in the Forest Layer, near the Warp Gong. You’ll need to destroy a total of 30,000 m³ of thorn terrain.
With either Kong Bananza’s charge punch or Elephant Bananza’s suction, this challenge becomes very manageable. Once you’ve hit the total, head back to Smashintone to earn your Banandium Gem.
