Skip the Cutscenes
You can skip cutscenes by pressing and holding the + or - button, and can save a lot of playing time. While the cutscenes in the game are not that long, some can go on for around 3 to 5 minutes, particularly during boss fights.

Learning and mastering the above skills can help you more efficiently go through each layer as fast as possible, and some are even required for layer skips such as double jumping while holding a chunk of terrian.

Equipping certain outfits will increase your speed when going through terrain that can slow you down such as mud and fresh snow, and is useful for speedrunning through layers abundant with this terrain such as the Forest Layer and Freezer Layer.
Although large bodies of water are not as common in the game, equipping the Red and Swimmin' Britches will become very useful once you reach the Resort Layer.
Skip a Layer in The Junction
You can skip a layer once you reach The Junction by using either the Zebra Bananza or Ostrich Bananza form to cross the gap and bypass either the Forest Layer or Freezer Layer, whichever route you didn't take first.
You can even perform this layer skip without using any Bananza form, though this is significantly more difficult. Skipping a layer in The Junction allows you to head straight to the Resort Layer, though you'll miss out on a Bananza form.
Skip the Challenge Ruins
There are 108 Challenge Ruins in the game and all are optional, which means you can skip all of them to focus on progressing through each layer as fast as possible.
You'll miss out on Banandium Gems to upgrade your skills, but the ones you'll get as you progress through the story are more than enough to give you points for the important skills.

Switch to Assist Mode
Switching to Assist Mode will make the story waypoint permanently visible. It also makes the music note trail that lead to your next objective visible at all times that would otherwise only appear if you whistle.
Turning assist mode on also reduces the damage you take from enemies while also regenerating your health, increasing your survivability as you progress through layers and bosses!

There's no reward for completing the game as fast as possible other than bragging rights, as well as self-imposed challenge runs.
