The best IVs for Gatrie are +Res and -Spd. Taking a +Res IV would balance his defensive stats. A balanced defensive statline is ideal for survival as it increases the range of units he can survive blows from. His Spd is of less importance as he depends on his skills to score follow-up attacks. This makes it safe to take as his bane.

+Res for a +10 Merge

Gatrie is a close physical attacker (range = 1). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Def stat.

Gatrie Strengths

Powerful effects if a bonus is active

Gatrie's Spirited Spear+ is a straightforward weapon. If a bonus is currently active on Gatrie, the weapon grants him +4 Atk/Def and Special cooldown charge +1 per foe's attack during combat. Make sure to get those buffs into Gatrie as he becomes a solid frontline unit if Spirited Spear+ is online.

This skill's effects synergize very well with his other skills discussed below. It rewards him for taking attacks in the enemy phase, which is a common mechanic that you will observe in his next strengths.

Guaranteed follow-up attack in the enemy phase

Crafty Fighter 3 grants Gatrie a guaranteed follow-up attack and inflicts special cooldown charge -1 to his enemy when he is attacked in the enemy phase. This activates provided that his HP ≥ 25%—a fair trigger condition for such powerful effects.

This skill combined with Gatrie's overall bulk allows the player to severely cripple enemy teams just by putting Gatrie in the frontline and allowing him to bait in attacks. Not only will Gatrie retaliate with such force, but he also hinders their ability to activate their specials.

Massive buff to Def and Res

Fort. Def/Res 3 grants Gatrie a massive +6 Def/Res buff. The downside to this is a -2 Atk penalty. However, considering that he is desigend to take lots of enemy phase attacks because of Crafty Fighter 3, the pros of this skill severely outweighs its drawbacks.
