Trait Fruits—How to Change IVs

When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.

+Def/-Spd

The best IVs for Valbar are +Def and -Spd. A +Def allows him to survive blows even from powerful green units. It is also a superboon so you should take advantage of it as much as possible. At Lv. 40 with this IV, Valbar reaches 42 Def which is at a decent range. His Spd very unreliable is of less importance so it is safe to take as a bane.

+Def for a +10 Merge

We recommend a +Def IV when merging Valbar to 10. This is for the same reasons as above With +10 merges, Valbar's Def stat will reach 46. This makes him a very strong physical wall. If you are going for the Distant Counter build, we recommend going for a +Res IV instead.

Valbar is a close physical attacker (range = 1). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Def stat.

Valbar Strengths

Excellent physical wall!

Valbar's base HP and base Def stand at 49 and 38 respectively. This statline is massive and it allows him to tank many hits from physical units. His only weakness is his low Spd of 25 which is further hurt by Brave Lance's penalty. To patch this, we recommend getting Wary Fighter. The relevance of said skill to Vlabar is discussed below.

You can also slap a Close Def 3 Sacred Seal onto him to make him even tankier against units whom he can land counterattacks upon.

Attack Twice with Brave Lance+

Brave Lance+ allows Valbar to attack twice if he initiates combat. It inflicts -5 Spd, but that does not hurt Valbar much as he does not rely on Spd for his offense. As said, we recommend getting Wary Fighter 3 as it prevents both Valbar and his enemies from landing follow-up attacks on each other. Again, this does not harm Valbar in any way as he does not depend on Spd to nail follow-up attacks.

Brave Lance's 2nd hit is an extra attack and not a follow-up attack so Wary Fighter 3 does not cancel it out.

Valbar Weaknesses

Needs investment!

Valbar's base kit is not in par with current generation units. In order for him to be competitive in harder maps, he must be invested upon through skill inheritance. Check out the builds section to get an idea on which skills to get for Valbar.

Weak to Armor Effective Weapons

Valbar takes 1.5x damage from armor-effective weapons like Armorslayer+ or Hammer+, and one blow from these types of weapons is sure to take him/her down. Make sure you know what weapons you are up against before hopping too far into the line of battle!
