When using an Ascendant Floret, we recommend getting the next superboon if it fits the hero. If not, consider what stat your hero needs most.
The best IVs for Ephraim are +Atk and -Res. A higher Atk stat allows Ephraim to deal more damage as his Spd stat is very unreliable to begin with. He also relies on his special effect refine and/or weapon evolution to score follow-up attacks—another reason why Spd is not much of signifance to him. His Res is very low and is of less importance to him so it can be safely taken as a bane.

This build makes Ephraim a heavy-hitting, pure offensive unit. With the +Eff refine on Siegmund, it ensures he doubles. With Joint Drive Atk and Death Blow 4, he has a higher chance of activating Heavy Blade and Wrath's effects and thus, can trigger his Special for more damage.

This build activates Galeforce after one round of combat and then uses Escape Route 3 to retreat to safety. Atk/Spd Push 4 provides the best stats for this while adding recoil damage to bring Ephraim to Escape Route range.

It also inflicts Atk/Def-5 to his target and grants him Special cooldown charge+1 per attack.
This gives more firepower to Ephraim and also accelerates his Special.

Ephraim
|
45 | 35 | 25 | 32 | 20 | 157 |
Note: Stats bonuses from skills are not taken into account.
Ephraim is a close physical attacker (range = 1). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Def stat.
Siegmund grants allies +3 Atk if they are are adjacent to him at the start of the turn. This is a small, but still useful buff that can easily be put into good use. this effect is kept even if you decide to get the special effect refine for Siegmund. Do not ignore this little effect and maximize your team's offensive potential!
Ephraim's Siegmund can either be specially refined or evolved into a Flame Siegmund.
They offer similar effects, but they differ in their trigger requirements. The differences between these two weapons are discussed in detail in the weapon refine section of this article. Said section also contains our general recommendation in which weapon to pick!
Ephraim possesses both Seal Def 3 and Threaten Def 3. This might be good on paper, but they sadly do not stack with each other. They can still work hand-in-hand a Seal Def 3 affects the unit Ephraim attacks and Threaten Def 3 is an AoE debuff, but we generally recommend replacing one or the other with a different skill. Check out the builds section for some recommended builds for Ephraim!
Despite being one of the older specials in the game, Moonbow is still a solid special attack. A 30% Def reduction to the enemy unit is almost always enough to take out a unit.
Ephraim has low Spd. Even if he is a physically durable unit, red units with high Spd can easily take him down. Be mindful of Ephraim's position in relation to units that pose a threat to him!
Thankfully, his weapon upgrades provide him ways to score follow-up attacks on his enemies as discussed above.
Ephraim's Res only sits at 20 at Lv.40. This makes it easy for magic users to take him out. Be mindful of Ephraim's positioning in relation to magical units that can easily take him out.
Celica | Lilina | Flying Olivia | Tharja |
Legendary Azura | Loki | Veronica | Bridal Fjorm |
If you choose to go through the specially refined Siegmund route, you will need to maintain 90% HP in order for the follow-up attacks to trigger. This means Ephraim needs a heal support in order to dish-out consistent damage. If not healers, any unit that can buff his Atk stat are good too! Since he attacks twice, even a small buff to his Atk will mean big damage.
It is no surprise that Legendary Azura is a great support for Ephraim as she is one of the best refresher-assist units in the game. She can both provide buffs to Ephraim and refresh his actions through Prayer Wheel.
Ophelia | Reinhardt | Adrift Corrin (F) | Lewyn |
Myrrh | Flying Nino | Nino | Yune |
Since Ephraim dishes out physical damage, it would be wise to team him up with a unit that deals magic damage. This gives your team good coverage, and allows them to deal with a wide range of enemy units. He also has a mediocre Res stat and it is common for mages to have fair Res levels—this is another way where mages cover-up Ephraim's weaknesses.

Value of Skills | ★★☆☆☆ |

Ephraim does not possess any skills that are worth inheriting onto another unit. Despite being one of the older units in the game, he is still a solid go-to unit. With some investment, he will have many favorable match-ups even against the newer units. If you get multiple copies of him, we recommend creating a merged Ephraim.
Another reason to not fodder him off is that he is a 5★ exclusive. If you need any of his skills, you are better off getting it from a unit that is much more common than him.

It seems that I’ve gotten much stronger here. My power has grown almost to overflowing. That isn’t enough. Oh, I don’t mean my strength. I’ve always been capable enough there. I mean that strength isn’t always enough to protect us. Yes, it helps force a foe to submit. But strength can also blind one to others’ feelings. That is exactly how I once lost a good friend. I must become kinder and more compassionate, or else I risk repeating my mistakes. You have those qualities. And so I must remain with you. Then I will learn all I need to. You’ll find that I’m a grateful student...and friend. |
