The best IVs for Donnel are +Atk and -Res.A higher Atk stat allows Donnel to utilize his ability to attack twice with his weapon. His Res is already low, and he is not really built for tanking magical attacks so it is safe to take it as his bane.

+Spd for a +10 Merge

We recommend a +Spd IV when merging Donnel to 10. With a +Spd IV, Donnel's Spd stat will reach 36 with 10 merges. A higher Spd stat can help him nail 4 attacks in one action through his weapon. If you are not interested in risky quad attack builds, you can stick with a +Atk IV instead.

How to Use, Explanation

This is a premium build for Donnel that uses Distant Counter. Slaying Lance and Quickened Pulse will accelerate his Special and Wrath will enable him to deal more damage. Atk. Smoke 3 will debuff his opponents after combat.

Hewn Lance grants Donnel +4 Atk/Def and prevents enemies from executing follow-up attacks if he initiates combat. This upgrade solidifies Donnel's role as an offensive player phase unit, as it adds a total of 8 damage per action and makes it hard for physical units to take him out.

Donnel is a close physical attacker (range = 1). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Def stat.

Donnel Strengths

Attack Twice with Donnel's Weapons

Both Brave Lance+ and Hewn Lance allow Donnel to attack twice if he initiates combat. They inflict -5 Spd, but that does not hurt Donnel much as he does not rely on Spd for his offense. Skills that guarantee follow-up attacks like Brash Assault 3 and Swordbreaker 3 allow Donnel to attack 4 times as the attack from his weapons are counted as extra attacks not actual follow-up attacks.

Can Put Enemies in Compromising Positions

With Drag Back, Donnel is able to pull enemy units into the spot where Donnel was originally in while he moves a space back. Being on the frontline, he is able to pull in units into the range of his high-powered but frail allies like Reinhardt.

Can Support Allies with Reciprocal Aid

Reciprocal Aid allows Donnel to swap HP with his allies. You can use this to heal allies who are in need or to help Donnel activate skills like Desperation 3, Brash Assault 3 or skills like Brazen Atk/Spd 3.
