How Do Enemies Work in ZZZ?

  1. Defeat Enemies in Hollow Zero
  2. Unlock Enemies in the VR Device
  3. Collect Details from the Workbench
  4. Various Versions of a Single Enemy
  5. Some are Unlocked by Default

Defeat Enemies in Hollow Zero

Zenless Zone Zero - Hollow Zero

The easiest and most efficient way to unlock more enemy cards is to explore Hollow Zero and defeat enemies for the first time. Once defeated, their data will be accessible via the workbench at Random Play.

Hollow Zero Guide

Unlock Enemies in the VR Device

Zenless Zone Zero - Unlock Enemies in VR Device

Defeating enemies for the first time will enter their data in the workbench and unlock their enemy cards in the VR Device.

Doing so will yield different rewards and materials depending on your needs!

VR Device Guide

Collect Details from the Workbench

Upon encountering an enemy, you can collect their data to add to the VR Device by accessing the workbench at Random Play. Be sure to visit the workbench regularly if you wish to unlock more enemy cards!

Various Versions of a Single Enemy

Each enemy comes with different variations, all of which differ in stats and boast more HP. Normally, fighting a stronger variation will yield different rewards, either of higher rarity or a different item altogether.

However, some variations can only be fought in specific challenges, like the Newborn Dullahan Activated, which can only be fought in Expert Challenge.

Some are Unlocked by Default

Zenless Zone Zero - Enemy Selection

Upon unlocking the VR Device after the Cat's Lost and Found Main Commission, the enemy cards of some of the enemies you've already encountered in the story will automatically be unlocked.

How to Beat Enemies in Zenless Zone Zero

  1. Exploit Enemy Weaknesses
  2. Attribute Anomalies and Disorder
  3. Perfect Assist Cues
  4. Use Stun Characters and Skills
  5. Trigger Chain Attacks
  6. Dodge Constantly

Exploit Enemy Weaknesses

Expoiting enemy weaknesses is crucial for defeating any opponent. Enemies of a certain type have common weaknesses. However, enemies of other factions, despite being of the same type, may have different weaknesses.

Weaknesses are revealed upon unlocking their enemy cards via the workbench, and you can view them while selecting enemies in the VR Device.

Type Weakness
Organic
Ethereal
Machine

Use Attribute Anomalies and Disorder

Attribute Anomalies occur when dealing damage of a specific attribute to an enemy repeatedly. Each Anomaly has different effects, all of which can speed up battles and make them significantly easier.

If an enemy is already afflicted with an Anomaly, inflicting another Attribute Anomaly will result in a Disorder, which will deal significant Daze and damage to enemies!

Attribute Anomaly
Burn
• Continuously deals Fire DMG for a period of time. Organic enemies' actions will be interrupted when the effect is triggered.
Shatter
• Immobilizes the target and deals Ice DMG when the effect ends. Increases the CRIT DMG received by the target for a period of time.
Shock
• Causes the target to receive additional Electric DMG at intervals. Machine enemies' actions will be interrupted when the effect is triggered.
Corrupted
• Causes the target to receive additional Ether DMG. Energy enemies' actions will be interrupted when the effect is triggered.
Assault
• Interrupts the enemy's actions and deals massive Physical DMG. Increases the Daze the target takes for a period of time.

Attribute Anomaly Debuffs

Watch Out for Perfect Assist Cues

Perfect Assists can be done by switching characters precisely before an enemy's attack hits, having the next Agent block immediately and follow up with an attack. You can do 6 Perfect Assists before your charges run out.

If an enemy is about to attack and you see a flash of gold, switch at the precise time to initiate a Perfect Assist. If you have no charges left, the flash will be red, and your active character will do a Dodge Counter instead.

How to Do Perfect Assists and Parries

Increase Daze Using Stun Characters and Skills

When formulating your party, a good starting point is to have at least one character whose Specialty is Stun. Stun characters can inflict Daze on opponents much faster than any other Specialty and can prolong it too!

List of All Characters

Trigger Chain Attacks

Use Heavy Attacks on enemies to initiate Chain Attacks. These could either be Special Attacks, combo finishers, or Dodge Counters, and Assists.

Once initiated, you can swap party members or your Bangboo to follow up with their own attacks, leading to increased DMG and more opportunities for Assists, allowing you to stack up on DMG!

Chain Attack Guide

Dodge to Avoid Being Cornered

When facing large groups of enemies, they may overwhelm you and back you into a corner. Avoid this by constantly dodging around the battlefield. Agents can even perform attacks while dodging.

Additionally, dodging at the precise moment before an enemy's attack hits will enable Perfect Dodges and Dodge Counters, leading to more damage on enemies!
