Cherish has access to the best shield and defense buffs in the game, making him a perfect addition to the Fox team, as he can give more damage boost to Fox and provide more taunt effects to him. That said, outside of this team, his performance is lacking as protection in this game is not favored, but sufficient enough that if you do not have access to higher-tier characters, then he is enough as a teammate for sustain and buffs.

Masaki Ashiya Skill Explanation
Start the Fight With Winter Fortress!
Always start the fight with Winter Fortress because it can guarantee stacks of Heroism to Cherish no matter who gets hit and provide down points to all allies making them immune from down effects for 1 attack.
Choose a Tanky Character for Hoarfrost Vow!
Hoarfrost Vow is a single-target ally skill so to get the most out of it, make sure to select an ally that benefits the most out of it such as Fox or Soy. The greatly enhanced defense buff, damage boost and increased rate of getting hit is beneficial to these characters.
Use Highlight if You Are About to Take Massive Damage
Only use Cherish's highlight if you are about to take a lot of damage for that turn. It is not worth activating it during a turn where you are attacking because it doesn't buff anything other than give you massive shield and damage reduction.
Only Use Frost Vines if Garden of Promise Is Active
Cherish's skill rotation is only Skill 3, Skill 2 then repeat. He also has a passive effect called Garden of Promise that gets used after stacking 4 Heroism then consuming with either Hoarfrost Vow for more shield or Frost Vines for more damage. If you can squeeze in Frost Vine, then it is best to use it after activating Garden of Promise.

The most important skills that you need to prioritize and max out for Cherish is his Skill 3, Winter Fortress and his skill 2, Hoarfrost Vow as those are the skills he rotates the most with his Highlight worth leveling up to 8 and his skill 1, Frost Vines having the least amount of level.

All of Cherish's skills scales off of defense however he doesn't use it on his own but instead share it to the party especially to one party member. That is why Faith and Peace which provides more defense to him while also giving more defense to his targets plus shields.
The main stats you need to aim for are all defense while sub stats are still defense but with a few speed and HP so he can act first and still survive attacks.

Cherish's role in this team makes it so Fox can deal more damage and have enemy attacks target him more often. What makes this team premium is the inclusion of Phoebe as she can further enhance the damage of the team because Cherish, Fox and Wonder has Ice Personas.
- Cherish: He provides defense buffs and damage boosts to the party and enhances Fox with a taunt effect so he can be targeted a lot.
- Fox: He is the main DPS of this team capable of dealing guaranteed AoE damage every other turn based on his defense.
- Yuki: She buffs Fox with more defense and provides the team with small heals through blessings.
- Phoebe: She provides more elemental damage boost to the party and can still apply to Fox's defense-based damage.
Wonder will start with King Frost and the All-In dagger to increase defense of the whole party and he rotates to Sandalphon for more defense buffs and Surt for AoE defense debuff to the enemy.

Should You Pull For Masaki Ashiya
Consider if You Have Fox!
Cherish is worth pulling for if you have Fox already built as he will absolutely strengthen him further and be capable of dealing more AoE counterattack damage. Cherish can also increase Fox's chances to get hit and further enhancing Inspiration activation. He is also an ice unit that can synergize well with Fox making Phoebe a viable navigator for this team.
However, if you do not have Fox, it is much harder to recommend him purely on gameplay but if you like his design, playstyle and his synergy bond then you can pull for him as he can also help your team survive attacks and deal decent damage if played right.
