| 12/06 | | NEW Added in 2.6 as SS-Tier • Haru Okumura or Noir is the latest addition in the Sweeper role. She specializes in dealing massive AoE damage using her ranged attack after stacking Thoughtful Rounds with her skills. She is the only psychic damage dealer for a while therefore, cementing her place in the SS-tier the same as Queen's which both has the same situation of being the only DPS in their respective element. |
As of Version 2.6, the best character in Persona 5: The Phantom X is Futaba Sakura!
Futaba Sakura takes the throne of the best character in P5X thanks to her ability as a navigator to implant weakness to all enemies in any element your current team has while still providing decent buffs and debuffs to your party.
Not only is she useful for increasing your score in Nightmare's Gateway or Trials from the Sea of Souls but she also helps you clear higher level Velvet Trials easily without needing to invest in your characters that you do not use.
In Version 2.6, Haru Okumura joins as a Phantom Thief and her role as a Sweeper fills in the missing gap for a Psychic damage dealer. Her playstyle revolves around stacking Thoughtful rounds using her skills and then unleashing it to deal massive AoE psychic damage using her ranged attack. She will be a long standing psychic damage dealer for a while hence her placement in the SS-tier.
| Roles | Explanation |
|---|---|
| DPS | Deals the highest damage in the game and is the main source of damage for clearing difficult content such as Trials and Bosses. |
| Sustain | Responsible for keeping the party alive using their skills to heal and sustain the team and themselves for surviving difficult content. |
| Support | Provides buffs and debuffs to their allies that can apply various effects such as amplifying damage and stat boosts. |

Wonder is exempted from this Tier List due to his ability to equip multiple Personas as a Wild Card. Depending on what he has equipped, his role and ranking can vary due to the type of Persona and their Skills available.
Persona Tier List: Best Personas for Wonder

Haru Okumura has joined as a Phantom Thief with the Version 2.6 update. Her specialty in dealing constant massive AoE damage with her skills and accumulating Thoughtful Round stacks to deal even more psychic damage using her ranged attack places her in the SS rank for the tier list and will be for a long time as she is the only reliable psychic damage dealer even in the future.
Version 2.6 Patch Notes and Summary
| Tier List Explanation Shortcuts | |||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Character | Tier Explanation |
Oracle
|
Oracle is currently the best character in the game. Her ability to buff allies and change enemy weaknesses is uncomparable to other support characters, and can change up your teams damage capabilities by a large margin. She currently holds the crown, and is a must pull character on any team. |
|---|---|
| Character | Tier Explanation |
Marian
|
Marian is easily the best healer in the entire game, and will continue to be for a good while. She grants max HP, a damage buff, a cleanse for 1 debuff and a heal over time through her skills. She is good for any team, making her a very flexible option. |
|---|---|
Queen
|
Makoto, with her playstyle revolving around elemental ailments and technicals, changes the way damage calculation works among DPS characters. As the most reliable Nuke DPS, she cements her spot on the SS Tier! |
Chord
|
Chord is easily the current best Strategist to include in most teams as she shakes up the meta with consistent access to Highlights and overall single-target buffs. She can be used in most teams as they are commonly composed with one main DPS in mind, meaning Chord is essentially a no-brainer inclusion, especially with her skill improvements! |
S. Closer
|
S. Closer is currently the best DPS out of all the characters up until Version 2.1. Not only is she easily sustained due to her high survivability, she can dish out massive Bless damage to both single and multi-target battles. Furthermore, she was massively buffed to the point that she can work with almost any team! |
Noir
|
Noir is the first main DPS of the psychic element and will be for a very long time. She pairs well with characters that can buff her attack and ailment accuracy to dish out massive AoE psychic damage with her skills eventually buffing her ranged attack. She deserves her spot in the SS-tier as a solid option for endgame content that deals with Psychic element. |
| Character | Tier Explanation |
Rin
|
Rin is the best debuffer on launch, with her on-demand defense reduction being universal. She can debuff enemies with Forget, which locks them out of their Skills for 1-2 turns. This also means heals, buffs and debuffs they cast are all blocked, and she can increase the success rate of landing the Forget ailment with her Meng Po Soup. |
|---|---|
Joker
|
Joker is one of the more reliable DPS characters as a Curse Sweeper, thanks to his ability to get an Extra Action at a set number of passive stacks. His Hidden Abilities also buff his damage during that Extra Action, making him hit even harder than he has any right to. However, the recent characters have started outshining him. |
Phoebe
|
Phoebe is an intersesting Navigator that unlocks her full potential being in a team that is only using 1 Element Attribute. Most of her skills’ bonus effects rely on her getting Tailor-Made Cocktails to trigger them, and they are most often obtained when attacking with the same element repeatedly. For a newer player, her value is cut thanks her mechanics, hence her lower ranking among Support characters and rerolling. However, for a player with a number of built mono-type teams already, she is a welcome addition. |
S. Moko
|
Summer Moko can be considered as a hyperaggressive Medic, as she needs to do damage in order to provide heals to the team via Spark stacks to use Summer Reminiscence. Her playstyle now is a much-needed upgrade compared to her original version. She works great on all team comps, but will be at her best alongside Tropical Motoha. |
| Character | Tier Explanation |
Soy
|
Soy is currently the best Defender in the game between him and Yuki, and it due to his Wild Runner passive being an automatic taunt to enemies to hit him more frequently. He also gets ways to reduce damage received on top of gaining his HP back with Desperado. Give him an ally that grants shields like Leon or Riddle, and he can freely tank all the hits for the team. |
|---|---|
Wind
|
Wind does not join Wonder’s Team officially until Chapter 3 in the story, but when she becomes available, players should use her immediately as a free character. Her support skills can be used in just about any team comp, as she specializes in buffing the team’s damage and lowering the opponents’ defense. |
Fleuret
|
As of launch, Fleuret is currently the only Wind DPS among the characters. He gets stronger the longer the fight goes thanks to his Right to Strike passive stack. The Windswept debuff lowering defense combined with one of his skills raising Crit Chance, and he can hit harder than most of the characters can as an Assassin. |
Puppet
|
Puppet is all on shielding her allies, and she universally increases the team’s defense in a battle the more Shields she puts up thanks to her Seashell stacking passive. She is great for longer fights like bosses and challenges, and gets even more efficient with each Awareness active. |
Mona
|
As of launch, Morgana is the only character in the roster that can revive a fallen ally in a battle. Even if restricted behind a Highlight, it is still a very powerful ability to have. His passive, however, does not incentivise repeated use of healing skills in consecutive turns in order to get Chivalry stacks. His strength also lies in his guaranteed Windswept. |
Panther
|
Ann is currently the best Fire unit in the game, and is highly recommended to pick up as the free 5-star character. With a team built around her, she can blitz new accounts through the early stages of the game, and can still hold her own later on. |
Fox
|
Fox’s playstyle is rather intriguing as an Ice Sweeper, as all his skills scale off of his Defense stat. He also gets stronger when given a shield, and Keen Eye will turn his single-target Counterattack into a multi-hit attack. The taunt lets him support the team, but he needs to survive in order to properly counterattack. He may require specific teammates to be great, but he does his job well on his own as a Defense-based DPS. |
Messa
|
Messa focuses on inflicting single target damage and damage over time. He requires a niche battle tactic that focuses on stacking Bleeds to maximize damage. While he does deal a good amount of damage as a DPS, he is not considered a must have character since there are other DPS units that can deal better damage than him in other elements. |
Cherish
|
Cherish has access to the best shield and defense buffs in the game, making him a perfect addition to the Fox team, as he can give more damage boost to Fox and provide more taunt effects to him. That said, outside of this team, his performance is lacking as protection in this game is not favored, but sufficient enough that if you do not have access to higher-tier characters, then he is enough as a teammate for sustain and buffs. |
| Character | Tier Explanation |
Cattle
|
At the start of the game, Cattle is your only lifeline in keeping the party healthy with heals. He even grants an attack buff thanks to the Starfire passive stack. As you get more characters, he quickly gets outperformed as an overall support, and becomes more of a niche team member for a Fire team. |
|---|---|
Bui
|
Bui’s entire playstyle revolves doing Follow-Up Attacks. She works well with members that have multi-hit attacks, synergizes with Electric teams. She has innate high crit rate and crit damage, but she is very reliant on her assigned “Player 2” dealing damage as well. She can be quite hard to master, but deals massive damage when played in proper sequence. |
Okyann
|
Okyann is free to get thanks to the Trials of the Deep beginner’s event, and she is a great Navigator at the start of the game with her Attack buffs. If other characters can fill in a defensive role, she can bring up attack buffs constantly to increase the team’s DPS universally. |
Riddle
|
Riddle’s playstyle is centered around using her passive stacks, Childish Heart. Spending them can help her boost heals and shields received to the party, or increase their attack, depending on the skill used. When used right, she enables the good characters to great, and great characters to top-tier. |
Moko
|
Moko’s ability to buff an ally is tied to her passive stacks, Greenleaf. She gains this by attacking with Psyche Melody, and loses it when buffing or debuffing. She is best used to buff your main DPS and inflicting the Sleep ailment, which also significantly increases damage dealt. |
Leon
|
Leon is one of the best among the 4-star characters thanks to his Passive stack, Power of Friendship. The lower his allies’ HP gets, the stronger the buffs he gives out. He can also grant out a shield, a damage buff, and a Crit damage buff on top of doing respectable Nuclear damage. |
Skull
|
Ryuji has potential, thanks to his Rebound mechanic that lets him deal damage if he gets hit with an attack. He even gets stronger the lower his HP gets thanks to his passive. Unfortunately, he does not have any way to redirect attacks to himself, meaning he has to lower his own HP using his Physical skills instead. |
Vino
|
Vino is quintessentially the Saboteur for most teams centered around Elemental Ailments due to her ability to stack one of each of the ailments, hence her placement in the SS tier for Support. She also does this while having the situational answer to enemies with a weakness to Nuke! However, the current state of the meta only allows her to be paired with Makoto, hence her placement on S for the overall category. |
| Character | Tier Explanation |
Closer
|
Closer is great to use in the first palace since most of the enemies there are weak to Electric, but her kit is far too dependent for Wrathful Thunder to hit and inflict Shock. This makes her Awareness 1 almost mandatory to get to increase chances of inflicting Shock. She also has the burden of being the only Electric Persona-user on launch, so we will need to wait for a more reliable DPS for Electric. |
|---|---|
Sepia
|
Sepia’s playstyle revolves around his different Verse stacks, which give his Curse abilities different effects. Being a 4-star, his Awareness level will eventually increase to further make his Verse stacking potent, but for now he’s a great Curse DPS in case players do not manage to get Joker from the Gacha Banner. |
Key
|
Key is a unique Fire Saboteur that uses his max HP for his skills and to trigger his Chosen One passive stack. At the moment, he’s great in a Fire team composition with other Fire users like Panther and Lufel, thanks to their skills also causing Burn. He can be a great support for future Fire characters. |
Yuki
|
For a Guardian, Yuki only can only grant one ally a Shield at the start of battlethrough her Oath passive. She can grant this shield repeatedly to that character. However, the target is chosen at random, and only they receive the refreshing Shield. She can also grant one other ally a Shield, but that now leaves two party members unprotected. |
Mont
|
Kotone has potential as an Ice Assassin, thanks to her passive letting her do follow-up attacks in Blade Dancer. However, that is tied to her having Ice Crystal stacks that can only be gained by defeating an enemy or using Winter Storm. On top of that, Ice itself does not have any powerful support from the current roster of characters. |
| Tier | Criteria |
|---|---|
| The highest tier characters has the qualities of SS tier characters but can work in much wider range and can fit in any team even at their base power. One of the unique qualities of characters in this tier is their ability to ignore or break the mechanics of the game to raise the power level of your team exponentially. | |
| SS tier characters are capable of clearing most of the content in the game without needing to be fully optimized. This also includes synergy with other characters, Awareness Levels, and how efficiently they can take on Trials and Bosses. | |
| S tier characters are capable of clearing content just as fast as the SS-tier characters once they are fully optimized. This means they are a good alternative for SS-tier characters depending on your available equipment. | |
| Versatile characters that require you to fully optimize your character's stats and equipment in order to be powerful enough to take on difficult content. They are mostly used as substitutes to fill out specific roles in your party for good team compositions. | |
| Playable characters that are held back by their flaws based on their Character skills and team composition synergy. They are still viable options but will likely not be capable of taking on most of the content in the game. | |
| The most underperforming characters in the game that provide the smallest contribution to your team. Unless you prefer using these characters, we highly do not recommend them for taking on difficult content such as Trials and Bosses. |
