The Pity System is a Gacha feature in the Contract Banners in Persona 5: The Phantom X (P5X). Learn more about the Pity System, how much it costs to reach pity, and frequesntly asked questions here!

The way that Pity works in Persona 5: The Phantom X is that if you didn't get a 4-Star Character from your last 9 pulls, this will land you at Flat 1 Rate. This guarantees a 4-Star character of higher on your 10th pull.
If you don't get a 5-Star character from your previous 79 pulls, you will be guaranteed at least a Standard 5-Star character. To guarantee a draw from the Special Most Wanted Characters, you will need at least 160 pulls. This guarantees that if you receive a standard character from your first 80 pulls, then the next 80 is guaranteed to be a Limited Character one.
The Pity from the previous banner can carry over to the next Limited Banner. It means if you have pulled around 75 from the previous banner, you can get the 5 Star Character on the next banner after 5 pulls.
All Banners Schedule and History

Unlike the Character Banner, the Weapon Banner hits Pity at 70 Pulls. It operates on the 50/50 system as the Character Gacha and you are guaranteed a 5-Star weapon on your 70th pull.

A special feature of the Weapons Banner is the Dream Pick. Which lets you choose your top 3 weapons from the current banner that will have a 50% chance to drop when a 5-Star weapon is pulled.

A Five-Star drop will always be drawn after 80 pulls, but there is always a 50/50 chance that it could be Standard Character instead of a Limited Character. If you miss the Limited Character during your first 80/70 pulls, you are guaranteed a Limited 5-Star Character/Weapon on your next (160/140) pull.

*This is calculated based on the rate of the Cognition Crystal.
To reach Flat 1 Pity you will need to pull 80 times, since 1 pull is equal to 150 Cognition Crystals. This means that you will need 12,000 Cognition Crystals to make the full 80 pulls.
To reach the guaranteed 5-Star unit from the Most Wanted Phantom Thief, you will need to reach Flat 2 or the 50/50 guarantee. This means that you will need to pull another 80 times, landing at around $400 in total.
| Price | No of Crystals Per Pack | Cost Per Piece Rounded Up | Total Cost to Reach Pity |
|---|---|---|---|
| $0.99 | 60 | $0.99/60 = $.017 | $.017 x 24,000 = $408 |
| $3.99 | 250 | $3.99/250 = $0.16 | $0.016 x 24,000 = $384 |
| $7.89 | 490 | $7.89/490 = $0.16 | $0.016 x 24,000 = $384 |
| $24.49 | 1,500 | $24.49/1,500 = $0.16 | $0.016 x 24,000 = $384 |
| $40.49 | 2,500 | $40.49/2,500 = $0.16 | $0.016 x 24,000 = $384 |
| $82.99 | 5,000 | $82.99/5000 = $0.17 | $0.17 x 24,000 = $408 |
Calculation does not include the initial purchase bonus and any excess crystal past the 24,000 needed for the 160 pulls.
The price per unit will be relatively the same regardless of which pack you choose. At the end of the day, purchases will depend on the amount you are willing to spend for your pulls.

Before you buy Cognition Crystal Packs, it is highly recommended that you purchase the Platinum Pack first. Normally, you will need to spend around $24 to get 10 pulls, but with the Platinum Set, you can pull the same amount for only $9.99. This is more than half the price which makes it a real bargain.
You can purchase the Platinum Pack from the in-game shop by choosing Goods and selecting the Sale tab.
Even when the Banner changes, your current Pity count will not be reset. You will have the same pity unless you pull a Limited Five-Star Character.
The Character and Weapon Banners have a different Pity Count, so pulling for one doesn't carry over to the other banner. One of the reasons being that Character Banners require 80 Pulls while Weapon Banners only need 70.

On the Banner page, you are pulling for there is a counter for how many times you have tried pulling. This will let you know how close you are to reaching your guaranteed pulls.
If you do a 10 pull and get a 5-Star Character in the middle, the gachas after that pull will be added to the pity count. So there shouldn't be any issues doing 10 pulls at once.
