Status effects are buffs and debuffs you can apply to characters and enemies in Persona 5: The Phantom X (P5X). Learn how to apply status effects and how to remove them in this guide!

How to Apply Status Effects
Use Skills or Personas
Use Skills or Personas to set a status effect on your team or enemies. Most Character and Persona support roles, like Medics, Strategists, and Elucidators, provides status effects to your team. Saboteur, on the other hand, provides debuffs on enemies to hinder and make them weaker in battle.
Note that some debuffs are not guaranteed to take effect even if you hit the enemies.
How to Remove Status Effects
Use Cleansing Skills
Use skills from Personas that has a cleansing effect to remove status effects. Medics, Strategists, and Elucidators are the ones who usually have these skills.
It's best to remove the negative status effect early as they may prove fatal if left for several turns.

You can use items in battle to remove status effects. You will need to use the correct item to remove the effect, which you can check from their description.

Elemental Ailments
| Elemental Ailment | Effects |
|---|---|
| Burn | Lose 5% HP for 2 turns. |
| Shock | Increase critical taken rate by 10% for 2 turns. |
| Windswept | Decrease Defense by 12% for 2 |
| Freeze | Decrease Attack by 12% for 2 turns. |
Spiritual Ailments
| Spiritual Ailment | Effects |
|---|---|
| Dizzy | Unable to act. |
| Forget | Cannot use Skills. |
| Sleep | Unable to act and recover 5% HP and SP every turn. Recovers whenever damage is received. |
| Rage | Increases attack, decreases defense, and targets random enemies. |
| Despair | Unable to act, loses SP every turn, and will be KO'd after a few turns. |
| Confuse | Unable to act, and throws away Konpaku Gems. |
| Fear | May not act and has a chance of fleeing from battle. |
| Brainwash | Does not follow commands and will attack allies. |
What are Status Effects?
Buff or Debuff that Stays Over Time
Status effect is a game mechanic where it can provide a boost to your allies or debuff to your enemies. The buffs and debuffs usually stays for several turns so make the most out of it and try to apply them early in battle!
