Key is a unique Fire Saboteur that uses his max HP for his skills and to trigger his Chosen One passive stack. At the moment, he’s great in a Fire team composition with other Fire users like Panther and Lufel, thanks to their skills also causing Burn. He can be a great support for future Fire characters.

Spread the Burn Status
Key's playstyle revolves around spreading as much of the Burn status as possible to support your main Fire DPS such as Anne. The goal is to have all Shadows inflicted with Burn so that you can gain maximum stacks of Chosen One on Key's next turn.
There are multiple ways to achieve this such as Lufel's Awareness 1 burn an enemy and then use Ring of Fire on that enemy to reliably spread the Burn. The most optimal way is to use Wonder as the one that sets up Burn!
Build up Chosen One Stacks
After setting up all enemies with Burns, enhance your party's Fire damage by using Crimson Summon to build up Chosen One stacks. Your team will receive a 5% damage buff to Fire skills for each stack of Chosen One, so that is a total of 25% fire skill damage!
Alongside that, you will be able to inflict a Status Ailment exclusive only to Key in the form of Sacred Flame. This ailment acts like a burn, but mainly scales off of Key's maximum HP.
Be Mindful of Key's HP
While Key can increase Fire damage with Chosen One, do not forget its other passive. When Key uses a skill and has Chosen One stacks, he will use his 4% of his HP as a resource per each stack. With a maximum stacks five, that's 20% of Key's HP upon each skill.
To answer this, have either Lufel or Marian focus their heals on Key to keep your Fire Damage engine active for the whole fight.

Only Use Cleansing Flame for Burst
Key's main goal is to keep up his Chosen One stacks and Sacred Flame with Crimson Summon, so using Cleansing Flame can be a waste of a turn. However, if you need a significant burst of damage to finish off an enemy before their turn, you can use Cleansing Flame and consume Sacred Flame!

Prioritize leveling up Crimson Summon first as it will serve as Key's core skill in a Fire team's rotation. Secondly, level up Thieves' Tactics to amp up the Fire damage boost Key's highlight gives. Put both Cleansing Flame and Ring of Fire in the backburner as they are both situational.

If you were able to get your hands on Ann either as your 5-star choice or reward from the Starter Banner, then you are pretty much set for a Fire team! The premium team is composed of Panther, Key, Marian, and Okyann!
- Panther: She will be your primary DPS as her La Vie En Rose is easily activated through Key's Burns.
- Key: Sets up the team's Fire Damage with Chosen One and apply Sacred Flame.
- Marian: She can single-handedly keep Key's HP tapped out due to her bursts of healing.
- Okyann: Provides additional damage to enemies with elemental ailments and improves the consistency of inflicting Burns.
As for Wonder, he is meant to apply the Burn status before Key's turn, hence the removal of Lufel. This is so Key can skip to using Crimson Summon and get an early set up of Sacred Flame and Chosen One on Anne's turn. He will also act as a damage buffer to Anne by using Tarukaja when available.

The Control and Awareness are the best-in-slot card combo for Key to further increase the Fire damage he brings to the plate by up to 12% if an enemy has the Burn Status.
Additionally, Key mainly scales his damage off of his Max HP, so Control's set bonus gives him a significant damage boost to all of his attacks!

If you are up against a tough boss that is more like a fight of attrition, the Control and Departure card combo should be better as the overall 23% Defense decrease on the main target will net you higher value than the initial combo.
