Story Differences
Different Universe and Timeline
The Phantom X is canon, but it is not a sequel for the Persona 5 Royal. It is set in a parallel universe where the story features Desire, which is the main theme of the antagonist in Persona 5 Royal.
Is P5X Canon?
New Main Character - Wonder
Persona 5: The Phantom X revolves around the new main character, Wonder (Nagisa Kamishiro). He will be part of the Phantom Thieves and meet their members through the story and events.
What is the Protagonist's Name?

Some of the characters from the past Persona titles are playable on P5X. You can also interact with some of them in different places in the game.

Battle System is Similar to the Original
The battle system between P5X and P5R are almost the same, like the Gun and Melee commands. However, there are new mechanics introduced to P5X, giving players fresh experience.
Attribute Affinities Remain Unchanged
Attributes remain the same in P5X. You will still see the same 10 elements and the affinities in the game.
Combat Guide: Attributes and Affinities
1 More Differences
1 More in P5X is slightly different with P5R. The concept is still the same, but the characters in P5X can perform the attack based on the 1 More Skill, and uses its attribute to deal damage.
1 More Skill can be found in the same skill as the characters' highlight.
All-Out Attack is the Same
All-Out Attack is the same as the Persona 5 Royal. You can activate it after knocking down all the enemies in battle and deal high physical damage.
How to Perform All-Out Attacks
Assist Characters is a New Feature
Assist Characters is a new feature in P5X where you can call in for support in battle to give your team buffs or healing. You and your friends can use the Assist Characters of one another and earn an Assist Reward afterward.
Friend System: Friendship Points Explained
Highlight is a P5X Feature
Highlight activates the ultimate move of a character in battle. This is a new feature for P5X that allows players to deal more damage in a single turn.
