Sepia’s playstyle revolves around his different Verse stacks, which give his Curse abilities different effects. Being a 4-star, his Awareness level will eventually increase to further make his Verse stacking potent, but for now he’s a great Curse DPS in case players do not manage to get Joker from the Gacha Banner.
Toshiya Sumi shows up in the Metaverse as Sepia in the Metaverse. They do not have powers to wield a Persona, but they still assist Wonder and his team as they descend down Mementos.

| Tips in Using Sepia (Toshiya Sumi) |
|---|
|
1. Gain Verse Stacks by Hitting Enemies 2. Allies Hitting Enemies Also Add to Verse Stacks 3. Baton Pass Attacks Count for Verse Stacking 4. Each Skill Has a Different Use for Verse Stacks 5. Trigger Sonnet of Fate Follow-Up Attack |

The main gimmick Sepia has as part of his playstyle are the Verse Stacks. He has three types, coinciding with each one of his Curse attacks.
A Verse stack is granted if an enemy gets hit by an attack. This means multi-hit attacks, including Sepia's own Unexpected Tragedy which hits three times, will grant multiple stacks of Verse.

Verse Stacking is not just limited by Sepia alone, as his allies getting to attack also grants stacks of Verse.
If they happen to have a multi-hit attack, like Closer's Wrathful Thunder or Fleuret's Saber Surge, it means multiple stacks as well!

Another thing to note is that Baton Passes and All-Out Attacks also count for hits, meaning it also happens to grant stacks of Verse for Sepia.
As mentioned, there are three different types of Verses that Sepia can earn using his attacks, but they all count towards the overall Verse stacks he accumulates.
Once they are spent to trigger the Sonnet of Fate passive, the special Verse stacks that were spent have a chance to trigger additional effects:
| Verse Stack | Attack Involved | Possible Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Verse of Hate | Unexpected Tragedy | Chance to inflict Curse to enemy |
| Verse of Healing | Absurd Comedy | Restore HP of ally with lowest HP |
| Verse of Passion | Tragicomedy of Love | Deal Follow-Up Almighty Damage |

Once Sepia reaches at least 14 Stacks of Verse, he spends that many to trigger his Sonnet of Fate passive, which lets him do a Follow-Up Attack against the enemy he last targeted.
Notablly, the damage multiplier for the Sonnet of Fate follow-up increases once he reaches Level 50 and Level 70. Have him leveled up to these benchmarks once you are able to to maximize its potential.
| Awareness Level | Effect and Details |
|---|---|

Sonnet of Fate Each time an ally deals damage, gain 1 Verse stack. At 14+ Verse stacks, activate Resonance and spend 14 stacks of Verse to deal follow-up Curse damage to the last foe Sumi targeted, equal to X% of Attack. Sepia being a Curse Assassin is already overshadowed by Joker and his Extra Action ability, but if the player is unforunate enough not to get him, Sepia can serve as a F2P-friendly version.
He and Fleuret will become the DPS of the team, as Fleuret gets synergy thanks to his multi-hit attack in Saber Surge. Riddle will act as the Strategist buffer, as Wonder takes on the Medic role while having some Sub-DPS capabilities. Puppet's shields also help with the team's survivability.

As of writing, the only other character that has a multi-hit skill is Closer with her Wrathful Thunder. She gets even stronger once she gets Awareness 1, which increases the hit count of the attack from 3 to 4.
Wonder has a number of Personas that have their own multi-hit attacks. This should help Sepia get more Verse stacks. Marian is there to provide heals and cleanses, and Wind will help the team deal more damage through debuffs.

The Awareness Card is the best main card to run for Sepia because of his potential to inflict the Curse debuff onto an enemy through Unexpected Tragedy.
Paired with Awareness are the Hindrance Cards, which gives him an overall boost for Curse attacks. With it, he also hits harder against enemies that have debuffs applied to them.
Both cards can focus on Crit Rate and Crit Multipliers for main stats and substats, but Ailment Accuracy should be considered if you want a better shot at getting the Curse debuff to stick.

For players who are just beginning to collect Revelation Cards for their characters, Growth and Power Cards are generically available even from opening chests. With his role as an Assassin, he's set to do as much damage as he can, and both boosting Attack means his DPS gets boosted.
Even better is the set getting stronger the longer the fight is. This might be recommended when going up against Palace Boss fights or some of the harder bosses down in Mementos.
